๐ŸŒฟ PALA Partner Event

The Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA) is pleased to support the Nature-Based Solutions Conference 2026, organized by our colleagues at the Landscape Contractors and Industry Specialists Association of the Philippines (LaCISAP).

We are also proud to share that our PALA members will be serving as resource speakers and technical experts, contributing their knowledge and experience to the conference discussions.

While ROOTWORK focuses on collaborative, landscape-led planning through a hands-on technical workshop, the Nature-Based Solutions Conference offers another opportunity to learn from experts, practitioners, and industry leaders working toward more resilient, livable, and future-ready communities.

Whether you're joining ROOTWORK, the conference, or both, we encourage everyone to continue engaging in the growing dialogue on Nature-Based Solutions in the Philippines.

The Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA), led by National President Holtzjosip C. Abbu and represented by LAr. Vic L. Dul-oog, actively participated in the Orientation and Design Workshop for Beneficiary LGUs of the FY 2025 Local Government Support Fund โ€“ Green Green Green (LGSF-GGG) Program held on 16 July 2026 at the DHSUD Central Office.

As a key partner of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development โ€“ Environmental, Land Use, and Urban Planning and Development Bureau (DHSUD-ELUPDB), PALA shared its expertise on landscape architecture, sustainable public open space planning, and design principles to guide LGU beneficiaries in developing high-quality, inclusive, and climate-responsive green infrastructure projects. Through the leadership of National President Holtzjosip C. Abbu and the technical inputs of LAr. Vic L. Dul-loog, PALA reinforced the importance of integrating sound landscape planning into local development initiatives.

The workshop, organized by the DHSUD-ELUPDB Urban Development Division, provided participating LGUs with orientation on the program guidelines, project requirements, and design standards, while offering technical assistance to strengthen their proposed Green Green Green projects.

Implemented in partnership with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Green Green Green Program continues to empower local government units in creating accessible, resilient, and people-centered public open spaces that contribute to more sustainable and livable communities.

The Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA) expresses deep concern over the ongoing cutting and earth-balling of mature trees along Quirino Avenue and Roxas Boulevard for the SALEX project.

Mature trees are essential urban infrastructure that provide cooling, air filtration, flood mitigation, biodiversity support, and climate resilience. Their removal raises critical concerns on environmental sustainability and climate-responsive urban development in Metro Manila.

PALA calls for stronger protection of urban trees and the integration of nature-based solutions and blue-green infrastructure into major infrastructure projects.

Congratulations to L.Arch. Paulo Alcazaren for being recognized with the 2026 Pearls of Legacy Award for Media, Arts & Culture โ€” a distinction honoring individuals whose work continues to create lasting value for communities, the environment, and future generations.

Through decades of leadership in landscape architecture, heritage conservation, writing, and design advocacy, he has continuously shown how public spaces can shape identity, strengthen communities, and enrich everyday life. His work reminds us that landscapes are not merely spaces to occupy, but places where culture, memory, and sustainability come together.

The Philippine Association of Landscape Architects proudly celebrates this remarkable achievement and your enduring contribution to the profession and the nation. ๐ŸŒฟโœจ
