15 wrong calls in a three point loss.

That is Caloocan’s claim following its game against GenSan. The referees were reportedly suspended for two weeks, but the bigger question remains:

What happens before they are allowed to officiate again?

Mistakes happen. But accountability should not end with a suspension.

Maraming liga. Maraming training camp. At lalong hindi tayo kulang sa mga batang gustong maglaro.

Pero ilan sa kanila ang napupunta sa tamang environment para matuto, magkamali at tuloy tuloy na mag-develop?

Madalas hinahanap natin agad ang pinakamalaki, pinakamabilis at pinakamagaling. Pero kung para lang sa early standouts ang sistema, ilang late bloomers ang hindi nabibigyan ng pagkakataon?

Gilas gets the win against Iran. But if this was JMF’s final game for the national team, Gilas is losing more than just another big man.

He may not be the quickest on the floor, but when the game gets physical and Gilas needs someone to hold his ground inside, JMF has always had a role.

Nine time PBA MVP. Thirteen years with Gilas. You do not simply replace that.

But someone will have to take over the responsibility.

This one is especially for the parents.

We are so focused on our children’s achievements. Playing time. Championships. Awards. Exposure.

But do we respect the process just as much?

When they do not get enough minutes, we move them to another team. When things do not go our way, we blame the coach. When there is no medal to bring home, we feel like no progress was made.

We want the hype, but not always the habits behind it.

There is nothing wrong with wanting our children to succeed. But development also means learning to wait, listen, make mistakes, respond to failure and keep working.

Are we really building better players?

Or are we just building their résumé?
