Don’t question Kai Sotto. Nag-service na siya sa Pilipinas in the best way he could, but he also has to find the best possible route for his career and his NBA dream.

Kaya ngayon, he has to continue honing himself and prove that he can dominate Asia -whether through games affiliated with FIBA or other competitions outside its administration. Both routes can give him valuable exposure and visibility to NBA scouts.

At the end of the day, pursuing his NBA dream doesn’t mean turning his back on the Philippines. He can serve the country while also chasing the dream he has worked for.

7'2" NOON, 7'3" NGAYON: GAANO NA KALAKI ANG GILAS VS IRAN

MANILA - More than a decade ago, size was one of Gilas Pilipinas’ biggest challenges against Iran.

In the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship, Iran leaned on 7'2" NBA veteran Hamed Haddadi as it swept the tournament and defeated the Philippines, 85-71, in the championship game in Manila.

Fast-forward to 2026, and the matchup looks different. Gilas now has its own 7-footer in Kai Sotto, listed at 7'3, backed by a deeper and more versatile frontline that can better match Iran’s size and physicality.

But it is not just about height. The 2013 Iran squad was an established powerhouse, finishing 11-0 behind Haddadi, Samad Nikkhah Bahrami and Mahdi Kamrani. Today's Gilas brings a different identity built on **size, depth and athleticism**.

Sa Gilas Pilipinas vs. Jordan game, 4 out of 5 players on the floor were foreign-based - Kai Sotto, Aj Edu/CarlcTamayo, Kevin Quiambao, and Dwight Ramos - with only one PBA-based player like Thompson, de Liaño, or Perez.

It says a lot about how competitive those playing overseas are. The international exposure, higher level of competition, and experience abroad are clearly making a difference when they play for Gilas. 🏀🇵🇭

DALAWANG HEROIC TRES NI DE LIAÑO, 'DI SAPAT SA 2OT HEARTBREAK NG GILAS

Dalawang clutch triples ni Juan Gomez de Liaño ang halos nagligtas sa Gilas Pilipinas, pero kinapos pa rin kontra New Zealand, 106-102, matapos ang dalawang overtime.

De Liaño drilled a game-tying threesa dulo ng regulation, saka muling kumana ng another clutch triple sa first overtime para buhayin ang Gilas at piliting umabot sa second OT.

Sa huli, nag-execute ang Tall Blacks sa crunch time at tinapos ang laban, na sinayang ang heroic shot-making ni De Liaño sa home-and-away FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
