🚣♂️🌊 From Dragon Boats to Sibid-Sibid.
Today, two of our paddlers took on a different kind of challenge as they joined the historic Sibidan Race of Tabaco City as first-time participants.
Unlike dragon boat racing, the Sibidan Race tests not only strength and endurance but also balance, coordination, and teamwork aboard the traditional wooden fishing boats that have long been part of our coastal communities. With no steersman to guide the course, every paddle stroke and every movement counts.
Competing against seasoned participants in a race deeply rooted in the maritime heritage of Tabaco City, our paddlers completed the course in 48 minutes and earned a consolation prize, a respectable result for their first attempt.
More than the finish time, we are proud that they experienced and supported a tradition that has been celebrated for decades. The Sibidan Race is more than a competition; it is a tribute to our fisherfolk and to the enduring connection between our communities and the sea.
Congratulations, Bet and Lau, on embracing the challenge and representing the spirit of paddling beyond the dragon boat! Every race is a lesson, every stroke is progress, and every experience adds to the journey.
