As a new Islamic year begins,
I find myself questioning one of the assumptions many of us live by:

We pursue the next promotion.

And we tell ourselves:
"I'll be happy when I get there."

A bigger salary.
A bigger house.
A bigger version of success.
Yet many people reach their goals and still feel something is missing.

I've come to believe that true happiness is not found in chasing happiness.
It is found in the absence of the search for happiness...and in living a life worth being happy about.

A life of purpose.
A life of contribution.
A life aligned with your values.
A life lived for the pleasure of Allah.

Perhaps our greatest Hijrah this year is not geographical, but internal.
A migration from endless striving to meaningful living.

From restlessness to contentment.
From distraction to purpose.
From seeking fulfillment in the dunya to seeking closeness to Allah.

One of the most frustrating things about being ambitious is...

You can walk into a beautiful garden and immediately notice the weeds.

You can build a great business and only see what's missing.

You can have amazing kids and focus on the one thing they didn't do.

You can have a loving spouse and obsess over the one thing you wish was different.

Sound familiar?

Here's the irony.

The very thing that helps us grow...our ability to see what could be
.can also rob us of gratitude for what already is.

Vision is a gift.

But every gift has a shadow.

The shadow of vision is becoming addicted to the gap.

The gap between:

Who you are and who you could become.

What you've built and what you haven't.

Who someone is and who they could become.

And if you're not careful...

You stop seeing people.

And start seeing projects.

You stop noticing growth.

And start noticing gaps.

Leadership.
Parenting.
Coaching.
Marriage.

They're not just about seeing potential.

They're about seeing progress.

Because people don't grow the most when they're constantly reminded of what's wrong.

They grow when someone notices what's right.

So here's a challenge:

For the next 3 days...

Before you point out what's missing,

Point out what's improving.

With your spouse.

With your child.

With your team.

With yourself.

Catch people doing something right and tell them.

Every day.

Fair warning:

This sounds ridiculously simple.

Which is exactly why most people won't do it.

Did they change?

Or did you?

Most people are having an existential crisis…
…during the tutorial level of life.

That’s the problem.
A 24-year-old feels “behind” because someone else bought a car.
A 31-year-old feels “finished” because another founder exited early.
A 40-year-old thinks it’s “too late” because social media rewards speed over depth.

But life doesn’t work like Instagram highlights.
It works more like a game.

And many of you are emotionally quitting…
before even unlocking your real character build.

You’re comparing:
your Level 3 confusion
to someone else’s Level 27 mastery.
Of course you’ll feel weak.

What people call “confidence” is often just:
repetition,
failure,
scar tissue,
pattern recognition,
and surviving enough battles.
That takes levels.

Some stages of life are meant for:
exploration,
mistakes,
grinding,
confusion,
rebuilding,
learning mechanics.
Not domination yet.

Nobody expects a player to defeat the final boss with starter tools.
But somehow people expect themselves to master life before mastering themselves.

That’s why so many people burn out.
Not because they lack potential.
Because they keep insulting their current level instead of completing it properly.
Read that again.

Every level has a purpose.
Some levels teach discipline.
Some teach heartbreak.
Some teach money.
Some teach leadership.
Some teach humility.
Some teach who not to trust.
Some teach patience.
And the funny thing?
The levels you hated most…
usually unlock the skills you need later.

The people who become dangerous in life are rarely the fastest starters.
They’re the ones who stayed in the game long enough to understand it.

So stop asking:
“Why am I not there yet?”
And start asking:
“What is this level trying to teach me before I advance?”
Because many of you are not behind.

You’re just in a chapter where the training looks ugly.
But the player you’re becoming?
Different story entirely.

Stay in the game.

Some people see Eid as a festival to feast.
Builders & founders see it as a reminder.

Every meaningful thing in life demands sacrifice first:
comfort,
ego,
sleep,
distractions,
certainty.

Sacrifice today...
Build tomorrow.
