Reflections on training and getting outside your comfort zone.
On Weight Training
If the 10,000 hour truly does exist, weight training is an area it applies to really well.
For a little over a decade I've spent time in the trenches and an equal amount of time accumulating as much knowledge in terms of theory as a human possibly can in 10 years to understand the effects of weight training on the human body.
If I were to say I know everything about weight training itself, it would be very naive(Google the Dunning Kruger Effect) but I like to believe I know more about training than most simply because of the time and energy I've invested over the years in both myself and my clients.
Although I still incorporate weight lifting sessions into my workouts and stay up to date with the latest research. The bulk of my training is bodyweight based.
On Calisthenics
Calisthenics/Bodyweight/Movement training is still very new to me. So many fundamental concepts I still struggle with.
There will be times I'll be very confident with a particular movement or idea only to find out that I'm completely wrong.
After a very long time, I feel like a beginner again.
As frustrating as it can get at times, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this style of training!
I feel stronger than I've ever been.
I feel a lot more agile and explosive.
I feel like my mind is always "on".
I feel like the mind muscle connection is the strongest its ever been.
I might be late to the game but that just means I have to work a lot harder to catch up.
I've never in my life been this motivated to get this good at something.
And this is something I can see myself getting really good at.
On Comfort Zones
The point I'm trying to make with this post is that don't stick to what you're used to. I could easily have told myself that I've never trained like this, I'm good with what I already know and trying something new is a waste of time and I'll never be able to give it the kind of effort required.
Get out of your comfort zone and seek novelty, you'd be surprised what a difference it can make to the quality of life.

The Bridge.
An essential progression to more advanced movements such as the gymnastic back bend, back hand spring and back flip.
Also an essential exercise for a bulletproof spine.
