Cycle World had this to say about Iconic's 6th auction going live today: “a visual throwback to anyone who ever owned or raced an FZR600 in this country during the late ’80s.” This FZR250's from '90 and it's available for bid now with NO RESERVE on iconicmotorbikeauctions.com
Please Note: This is part of the Greg Zydyk collection.
Nowadays, an small-displacement inline-four sportbike is a bit of a unicorn, as evidenced by the popularity and excitement around Kawi’s latest ZX-4RR. Comparatively, the early 90’s were the wild west for bikes of this nature; Japanese manufacturers were constantly coming up with ways to one-up each other in the lightweight motorcycle market.
Yamaha was no stranger to this, offering a ‘beginner-friendly’ motorcycle with the original FZR250R. The 250R was a beginner only in name, as the high-revving and agile bike soon became a staple amongst avid sportbike fans. The 250R was often seen as one of the more sought-after inline-fours of it’s time, offering a claimed 45bhp at a screaming 16,000 rpm while coming in at just 310 pounds – numbers that a motorcycle rider could only dream about in today’s market. With these types of amenities offered on a psuedo “entry-level” motorcycle, it was no wonder the FZR250R was – and still is – a cult classic.
The seller imported the bike from Japan about 13 years ago. He states “the FZR250 is my favorite of the inline 250’s. It’s not the fastest but seems to be well put together. It’s a nice place to be.”
Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection. We topped off the oil, performed a hydro flush/fill, replaced missing windshield bolts and washers, and performed a carb clean/sync. For our service department's full condition report, feel free to visit the listing on the auction site!
Modifications:
The seller states “the bike is all stock" and includes the OEM owner’s manual
Currently located at our facility in Panorama City, California, this Yamaha is offered on a clean Ohio title.
