🌊 Deep Sea Awareness Day – 7 May 🌊
The deep sea — covering over 60% of our planet — is one of the least explored and least protected ecosystems on Earth. It is home to extraordinary life forms, from bioluminescent creatures to species we haven’t even discovered yet.
But this fragile world is under increasing threat.
⚠️ Deep-sea mining is being explored for valuable minerals, which could disturb entire ecosystems that take centuries to recover.
🌍 The High Seas Treaty (BBNJ Agreement) is a global step forward — aiming to protect marine life in areas beyond national jurisdiction, including parts of the deep ocean. It gives hope for creating marine protected areas in the vast high seas.
This Deep Sea Awareness Day, we want you to connect with this hidden world through creativity 🎨
