Imam حسين علیہ السلام left Makkah for truth and justice, while corrupt rulers used fear, power and nepotism to crush humanity. The message of Karbala still stands against tyranny and silence.

https://salmanmehdi.substack.com/p/israels-death-penalty-bill-and-the/
This is one of the most important pieces I’ve read on the Gaza war, Palestinian human rights, and the dangers of state-sponsored violence. The proposed death penalty law is not about security. It is about power, punishment, and deepening occupation.
Reports by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and UN OCHA have already documented how collective punishment and military courts fuel anger and radicalization instead of peace.
History shows that executions do not stop violence. They create martyrs, strengthen extremist narratives, and destroy chances for dialogue.
At the same time, cases before the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice are increasing global scrutiny of Israel’s actions in Gaza. Adding executions will only deepen isolation and damage moral credibility worldwide.
This article explains clearly how this law could harm Palestinians, Israelis, and Jewish communities abroad. It connects justice, security, and human dignity in a way most media outlets avoid.
If you care about human rights, international law, and real peace in the Middle East, you should read this and share it. Silence today will only mean more suffering tomorrow.

🌙 15 Shaban 1447 Hijri | Shab-e-Barat & Birth of Imam Mahdi (A.S.)
Tonight marks one of the most blessed nights in the Islamic calendar. The night of 15 Shaban is a time of mercy, forgiveness, and renewal of faith.
On this night, we remember how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ honored his beloved mother, Bibi Amna (A.S.), with deep love and prayers. His example teaches us that respect for parents, gratitude, and emotional strength are essential parts of true faith.
Shab-e-Barat reminds us of Bara’at — freedom from sins through sincere repentance. It is a night when hearts return to Allah, when broken spirits find hope, and when believers are given a chance to begin again.
For the lovers of Ahl-e-Bayt (A.S.), this night carries even greater meaning. It marks the blessed birth of Imam Mahdi (A.S.), the promised leader of justice and peace. His mission is to end oppression, restore dignity, and establish truth across the world.
Waiting for Imam Mahdi (A.S.) is not only about prayers. It is about preparing ourselves through honesty, compassion, discipline, and service to humanity. Every act of integrity brings us closer to his message.
In a world filled with conflict and uncertainty, 15 Shaban reminds us that divine guidance is alive, hope is real, and justice will prevail.
Let us use this night to reflect, forgive, reconnect with Allah, and strengthen our bond with Ahl-e-Bayt (A.S.). May we become individuals worthy of being counted among the true followers of Imam Mahdi (A.S.).
With prayers,
Syed Salman Mehdi

globalvoices.org/2026/01/29/pakistans-aafia-siddiqui-and-the-elusive-truth-in-a-landscape-of-narratives/
For more than two decades, the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui has exposed how power systems protect themselves while truth is pushed aside.
The United States focuses narrowly on a disputed 2008 incident, while refusing to address the five missing years that preceded it. Pakistan, meanwhile, offers slogans and sympathy but avoids serious inquiry into its own role. This silence is not neutral. It serves corruption, nepotism, and institutional self-interest.
No state has explained where Dr. Siddiqui was between 2003 and 2008. No credible international investigation has been allowed. Evidence gaps, forensic doubts, and human rights concerns were treated as inconveniences rather than warnings. An 86-year sentence stands, while basic questions remain unanswered.
This case is not only about one prisoner. It reflects a global problem. When governments trade people for money, influence, or political comfort, law becomes a tool of abuse. When courts refuse to examine inconvenient facts, justice turns selective. When officials use victims for speeches but fear accountability, institutions rot from within.
Pakistan demands justice abroad while avoiding scrutiny at home. The United States insists the matter is closed while ignoring allegations of abuse and unlawful detention. Both states benefit from silence. Ordinary people pay the cost.
Human rights are meaningless without transparency. Courts lose trust when they protect power instead of truth. States lose legitimacy when they punish questions instead of answering them.
Accountability is not anti-state. It is the only thing that makes a state worth defending.
Silence protects power. Inquiry protects people.
Pakistan’s Aafia Siddiqui and the elusive truth in a landscape of politicized narratives The Islamabad High Court repeatedly rebuked Pakistani officials for using the case of Aafia Siddiqui as a symbolic political tool rather than pursuing a sustained legal strategy.

A reminder worth sharing.
Imam Ali peace be upon him described a woman as a fragrant flower, not a burden. Kindness and respect are not favors, they are duties. A gentle society begins with how it treats its women.
