Topic: Sound Research- The path towards good presentations
Has the thought of having to stand on the rostrum waiting to face that crowd of people who are just fishing for an opportunity to let you down made you wring your fingers? Blame your fortune? Think about all the times that it hasn’t gone well before and how this time it could not be any different? Has the idea of presentations plagued your life as well? Yes, here we are talking about how you can be more optimistic the next time you go and stand in front of the podium for a presentation and about how this time it can turn out to be not-so-bad after all. In fact, this time you are going to aim for a 10/10 on that presentation. It’s time to kill that fear and be the king/queen and steal the show. This piece would concentrate on the most important criteria for a good presentation; that of sound research.
Sound research? Of course, each one of us carries out research before presenting. Of course, we do put all of it on the slides. Right? People can read those even if you are not as audible as you ought to be. That is exactly what makes it worse. All of those people are meant to listen to you and you have to be engaging them in your presentation. It’s definitely not easy for you to be able to do that but that is exactly what can take you far.
By sound research what I really mean is that you need to go beyond the confines of your part of the presentation and beyond that topic itself. There is always a larger context for everything and it is your job as a researcher to figure out that context. You need to dig a little into the history of the topic and check your part against its larger context and connect it to that. Once you have such a deep understanding of something it is hard, in fact, practically impossible for that group of people who know so less about it to shake your confidence.
Once you have gathered all you could on the topic that you are presenting on by research online and exhausting as many of the resources as you could from the library. You are well-equipped to answer all the questions that come your way. You literally do know enough about your topic and that is exactly all you need to be able to ace that presentation which you feared so much.
Conclusively, the research that you do plays an instrumental role in how well you do at your presentation. That is all it comes down to. Your ability to face your audience with confidence, your ability to answer the questions thrown at you, your ability to trust yourself with what you are doing and to grab the attention of that audience which definitely isn’t there to read what you have written on the slides on Power Point or look at the beautiful animations Prezi has to offer. They are there to listen to you and it is your responsibility to take that opportunity.
