🚨 Shouting at kids isn’t coaching 🚨
I often hear coaches defend constantly shouting instructions at children in youth football with:
👉 “Well, Pep Guardiola shouts at players in the Premier League…”
But here’s the problem ⬇️
💰 Pep is coaching elite, adult professionals who are paid millions.
⚽ Children in grassroots sport are there to learn, play, and enjoy the game.
🫣Shouting at a child doesn’t make them play better, it usually makes them play with fear.
Youth sport isn’t the Premier League. It’s about developing confidence, skills, and a love for the game.
Coaches: if you want to inspire children, replace shouting with teaching. Replace criticism with encouragement. Replace fear with fun.

Grassroots football’s biggest problem?
Not pitches. Not players. Not money.
👉 It’s keeping good volunteer coaches.
Too many quit because the pressure from sidelines outweighs the joy of developing kids.
These coaches give hours every week — planning, organising, creating opportunities. Yet they often get criticism instead of support.
When coaches leave, kids lose. Teams fold. Role models vanish.
💡 Support your coaches.
💡 Step up if you think you can do better.
💡 Keep feedback constructive.
Let players play.
Let coaches coach.
Let’s build positive football environments.

A child has never asked us what coaching qualifications we have, to them it doesn't matter if we are a Level 1 or UEFA A licence coach.
💚 What matters is that we as coaches care about them as people as well as players and that we do our best to help them improve.

From U9–U13, players grow most through constant small-sided games: 1v1, 2v1, 3v2, up to 5v5.
These formats sharpen coordination, develop technique at speed, and build decision-making under real pressure. ⚽
