10th Intra Sapphire Cricket tournament 2013 Sapphire cup, the family feast of Sapphire, has ended elatedly. Model town whites ground was packed out with all lovers of cricket in Sapphire Family. The final match of this tournament was played between Lahore Blues & SFL-Dyeing, here are the highlights of this match.

Match no 37 SFL-Dyeing Vs Lahore Blues

SFL-D won the all-important toss and opted to bat first. Abdul Rehman and Ameen started cautiously and made 12 runs in first over of 12 overs match. Blues got their important wicket of Abdul Rehman in second over and then got Ameen in third over. Early dismissals of Ameen and Abdul Rehman choked the strong looking batting line of SFL-D. Wickets kept on falling regularly as, surprisingly, Blues took all the catches. Usman Butt and Umer bowled brilliantly and took 4 and 2 wickets respectively. But Farman showed good resistance with the bat. At time, it looks SFL-D would be bowled out within 100 runs but Rao Naveed played a magnificent over, bowled by Hafiz Shahzad, in which he scored 30 runs, a real turning point of the match. But Blues other bowlers kept very tight lines and bowled out SFL-D in 12th over for just 123 runs.

As per history of Blues against SFL-D, the opening pair didn’t last long as Mumtaz Khan gave catch on first ball of the run chase. SFL-D took hold of the match when they got Usman Butt in the second over for zero. The two batting giants of Blues, Mumtaz & Usman Butt, went back cheaply in the final match pressurizing the whole team. Shakeel, on the other hand, played a fearless innings hitting sixes and fours and keeping Blues in the match. After the wicket of Shakeel who scored valiant 44 runs, Blues again went in traumatized situation as another big name in the batting lineup, Hafiz Shahzad, failed to perform. Farman and Pervaiz asphyxiated the battings line of Blues and restricted them to a paltry total of 98 runs. SFL-D won the tournament for the fifth time and illustrated why they are the best team of Sapphire. Hats off to their splendid performance in this match.

Post-match grand closing ceremony of the tournament was arranged where awards & souvenirs were given to the sports management community & top performers of the tournament, honorable guests including bankers, mills management & staff were also present. The ceremony looked propitious with presence of Mian Shayan Abdullah Sb, as our Chief guest of the evening. 10th Intra Sapphire Sports Gala ended with a scrumptious dinner arranged for all Sapphire family members present in the ground.

We would like to thank our respectable director & mills management because we are able to manufacture such an invigorating activity for the family only with their kind support & backing. We look forward for the same excitement & stimulation in all coming events.

The terrific 10th Intra Sapphire Cricket Tournament 2013 Sapphire cup will wrap up today, it has given us appealing records & alluring events that will remain in our hearts & mind for the whole year. We would like to friendly remind everyone to be there in the ground in time as the final match between Lahore Blues & SDL-Dyeing would begin sharply at 1600 hours. We would like to conclude the closing ceremony before Maghrib prayer.

The final will be played on Saturday 27th April 2013 at 1600 hours sharp.

SFML won the toss & opted to bat first. The opening batsmen Sakhawat & Saleem from SFML started blazingly from the first over. This blazing start pressurized the Blues bowlers as fielders also dropped some dolly chances throughout the match, but after wicket of Sakhawat & Saleem blues again caught hold of the match and contained others batters, a bit. Late blitz from Ashraf propelled the total to 131 for SFML in ten overs. Chasing 132 under lights against a ferocious bowling lineup of SFML was never going to be an easy target, but that remained a perception. Blues Openers, Mumtaz & Shakeel, started the run chase stanchly and blasted the bowling line of SFML without any fear. The two openers made the mighty bowlers looked very skimpy as boundaries rained in the run chase. Mumtaz made brilliant 68 runs in 21 balls inclusive of 7 sixes & 6 fours. Shakeel made important 24 runs of just 6 balls he faced and Usman Butt also chipped in with three glorious sixes of the bowling of Maqbool. Blues chased down the target in 6.1 overs and hence will meet SFL-D in the finals.

Match No 35 SFL-Dyeing Vs STM-6

STM-6 won the toss & decided to field first, very surprisingly. The decision looked very odd when Abdul Rehman & Ameen hurriedly attacked their counterpart. It was a ten overs match and STM-6 bowlers didn’t had the grip on the match throughout the innings as SFL-D batters kept on pounding boundaries till the last over. In the end, SFL-D posted a unmanageable total of 176 in ten overs courtesy brilliant batting from Abdul Rehman, Ameen & Arif who scored very swift 59, 46 & 28 runs respectively. Run chase from STM-6 was wretched by strong bowling lineup of SFL-D bowlers. Not a single batsmen from STM-6 looked sure in the crease and wickets kept on tumbling. Their decision of batting under lights went badly against them as SFL-D restricted them to a meager total of 74 runs and SFL-D qualified for the finals with a huge margin of 102 runs.

The cricket gala of 10th Intra Sapphire Cricket Tournament 2013 has reached its peak, the semi-finals day was cheerful & had every constituent to enthrall the cricket lovers, two great semi-finals were played.

SFL-3 won the toss and opted to bat first. Batting was disappointing from SFL-3 as we never expected them to perform like that. STM-6 bowlers smothered the batters and none of the batsmen looked confident at the crease. Only four sixes were hit in whole innings and SFL-3 only scored 82 runs in 48 balls. Run chase from STM-6 started evenly poor as Asim was bowled in first over. But Abdul Razzak murdered the bowling of SFL-3 by hitting 6 sixes and equal fours in his match winning innings of 66 runs. STM-6 chased the target in 6 overs.
