📸 Looking back at the TrePsy 2026 Winter School 🖤🖤

▪️The Twinning TrePsy 2026 Winter School in Kraków marked the final training milestone of the TrePsy project and brought together researchers and young scientists to discuss two rapidly developing areas: the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids and the growing role of artificial intelligence in systems neuropsychopharmacology.

▪️As we share these memories, we also remember with deep sadness Professor Jorge Manzanares Robles. His last visit to our Institute will remain in our memory as an inspiring meeting with an exceptional scientist and a remarkable person.

Prof. Jorge Manzanares Robles 🖤
With deep sadness, we received the news of the passing of Professor Jorge Manzanares Robles, an outstanding pharmacologist who gained worldwide recognition for his research in the field of neuropsychopharmacology.

▪️Professor Manzanares graduated in pharmacy from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1985 and obtained his PhD in pharmacology in 1987. In the early stages of his career, he conducted research at Ramón y Cajal Hospital and La Paz Hospital in Madrid, and from 1988 to 1993 he worked as a Research Associate at Michigan State University (USA). After returning to Spain, he continued his scientific activity at leading research institutions, including the Complutense University of Madrid, the Ramón y Cajal Institute of Neurobiology (CSIC), and Hospital 12 de Octubre. In 2004, he became Professor of Pharmacology at Miguel Hernández University in Alicante (UMH), where he also served as Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and headed the Laboratory of Translational Neuropsychopharmacology at the Institute of Neuroscience in Alicante (Instituto de Neurociencias CSIC - UMH). Professor Manzanares was a highly respected member of the international scientific community.

▪️He authored more than 200 scientific publications (H-index 48, over 6,700 citations), led more than 50 research projects, and delivered over 300 invited lectures worldwide. His research made important contributions to understanding the etiology and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.

▪️For our academic community, the opportunity to collaborate with Professor Manzanares was a great privilege. His last visit to our Institute during the Winter School Twinning TREPSY 2026 (12-13 February 2026), entitled “Therapeutic Potential of Cannabidiol in Neuropsychopharmacology,” will remain in our memory as an inspiring meeting with an outstanding scientist.

▪️Professor will remain in our memory as an outstanding scientist and mentor whose scientific achievements significantly contributed to the advancement of neuropsychopharmacology.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

❄️ Second and Final Day of the TrePsy Winter School 2026 –

With great pride and genuine emotion, we have concluded the Twinning TrePsy 2026 Winter School, held on 12–13 February 2026 in Kraków.

This was the final Winter School organized within the Twinning TrePsy 2026 Project, a unique collaboration of four leading European brain research centres advancing innovative therapeutic strategies for mental disorders:

🇵🇱 Maj Institute of Pharmacology, Polish Academy of Sciences (Kraków, Poland)
🇪🇸 Miguel Hernández University (Alicante, Spain)
🇩🇪 Central Institute of Mental Health (Mannheim, Germany)
🇫🇷 Neurocentre Magendie (Bordeaux, France)

The event brought together 75 participants — researchers, PhD students, and experts from diverse scientific backgrounds — creating a vibrant and truly international academic community.

The second day was exceptionally dynamic and intellectually energizing. We explored the role of artificial intelligence in biomedical and neuropsychopharmacological research, addressing both its transformative potential and the responsibility that accompanies its implementation.

🎓 Lectures were delivered by:

Michał Marczyk, PhD – Introduction to AI based on neural networks
Łukasz Wróbel, PhD – An Introduction to Large Language Models
Prof. Roman Z. Morawski – Ethical aspects of AI-driven technoscientific research
Sylwia Grubarek – AI in Research: From Data Processing to Discovery and Publication
Bohdan Widła, PhD – Using AI in research from the perspective of intellectual property

🔬 Key themes included:
neural networks in biomedical data analysis,
integration of large language models into scientific workflows,
AI-supported hypothesis generation and publication processes,
ethical considerations in AI-driven research,
intellectual property challenges related to generative technologies.

The speakers demonstrated that AI is no longer a distant prospect — it is actively reshaping the research landscape. At the same time, the importance of responsible, transparent, and ethically grounded AI use in mental health research was strongly emphasized.

💬 The discussions were lively, thoughtful, and deeply inspiring. Your engagement highlighted the growing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration bridging neurobiology, pharmacology, and data science.

🌍 Thank You!

We sincerely thank all 75 participants for:
your enthusiasm and engagement,
the high scientific standard of discussions,
your contribution to a truly collaborative atmosphere.

Despite the winter season, we successfully warmed up Kraków with Spanish temperament and Polish hospitality and cuisine ❄️🔥

This final Winter School within the TrePsy project was more than a scientific event — it was a space for exchange, inspiration, and lasting international connections.

We look forward to future collaborations and continued scientific dialogue.

❄️ Twinning_TrePsy Winter School 2026 | 12–13 February 2026

This is the final post before the start of the TrePsy Winter School 2026 — we begin tomorrow! 🔥
We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming our lecturers and participants. Although this is the last school within the project, it promises to be exceptionally energetic, inspiring, and highly interdisciplinary.

Let’s warm up our minds — the scientific atmosphere is guaranteed! 🧠✨

We are pleased to introduce our next speakers:
Ms. Eng. Sylwia Grubarek and Dr. Bohdan Widła.

🧑‍⚕️Ms. Eng. Sylwia Grubarek – graduate of Biomedical Engineering and a fifth-year Pharmacy student.

She currently works as a pharmaceutical consultant in a research team analyzing the relationship between the human genotype and the efficacy and safety of medicinal substances.

Her interests focus on personalized medicine, pharmacogenomics, and innovative approaches supporting individualized therapy. 🌿🧬

👨‍⚕️Dr. Bohdan Widła – PhD in Law, Assistant Professor at the Chair of Intellectual Property Law, Faculty of Law and Administration, Jagiellonian University, member of the Critical Heritage Studies Hub. Until 2023, he worked as an attorney specializing in new technologies law.

🎓 Lecture:
The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research from the Perspective of Intellectual Property Law

AI in science is a rapidly growing trend — but it also introduces new areas of risk. The lecture will address key intellectual property issues and the practical implications of using (generative) AI in the European legal context.

📌 Three practical scenarios to be analyzed:
1️⃣ Training / fine-tuning AI models for research purposes — what should researchers be aware of?
2️⃣ AI-assisted literature reviews — what are the copyright risks?
3️⃣ Writing scientific articles with generative AI — what must be considered to remain compliant with regulations?
