WORKING AS A TEAM
Through the years of my experience and learning process, with the idea of sharing what I have explored, searched for, and discovered about the quality of communication between partners, I have realized that it is not always easy to share these ideas or find the right way and the right words to describe the complexity of building the embrace, even before we are about to move.
What are our duties, our responsibilities, and our priorities whenever we approach our partner?
I think we should start by looking at something deeper.
Even before finding our way to MOVE, we should first find our way to STAND.
I mean that, before we can truly connect with another person, we first have to be able to stand within ourselves: on our own axis, with our own balance, taking responsibility, control, and awareness of our body.
Only then can we approach each other, creating the conditions to build our embrace.
“Finding our partner without losing ourselves”
Choosing what we want and what we can share and create together with our partner.
In a few words, “having our position in the embrace” means that the proposer should give the partner the space and the time to find that position, while taking and maintaining control and awareness of their own body.
Have you ever thought about what the first feelings we are able to experience are?
Comfort and safety.
Without these feelings, it would be very difficult to build and maintain communication during the dance, and to share something more.
On the contrary, two people who are able to stand on their own axis can meet the other role with greater freedom, trust, and truth.
How much energy do we need to create good-quality communication?
In my opinion, both roles have the same “job” to do.
It is a teamwork.
We need a sort of collaboration and support from our partner, each finding our own 50% of it.
The commitment to doing a collective job in order to reach the same goal, together.
In fact, one of the challenges is to try to understand what we need, and how much energy we need, in order to dance with our partner.
Being “economical” should be the right way.
Proposing, not imposing.
Setting limits and reaching those limits.
In the milonga, in a social context, these needs will always be different according to the quality, experience, and method of dancing of each person.
Let’s recognize and make these moments more enjoyable.
Even before we start moving, there is a whole world to discover.
And it is never the same.

WHAT MAKES TANGO ADDICTIVE?
In our tango experience, during our learning process, a feeling of addiction to tango increases but we are not often aware of what makes tango so addictive.
What do we look for in the embrace, in the other person we are dancing with? How often do we find what we are looking for?
Tango means containment.
In the embrace we contain so much each other. Which is something that it doesn’t happen in other dances.
The closeness to the other person, going towards the same goal even though we often dance in opposite directions make tango magic.
And maybe that’s one of the reason why we feel addicted. Because we are looking for that magic. And once it comes and we feel it, then we want to feel it again and again, more and more. Exactly like drugs work.
Or shall we talk about the improvisation? When our brain completely turns off and only our bodies have the power to talk.
The rest just doesn’t count anymore.
No matters what do we do and where do we go.
Getting lost sometimes. The absolute commitment is that will happen while we will be there.
Discover the unknown, moment by moment. Together.
That’s for me the real magic.
