Let’s wave goodbye to the 2015 Chinese New Year ( ). Today is the Lantern Festival, which always falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month and marks the end of Chinese New Year. In modern times, CNY lasts around six or seven consecutive days, but back in ancient China, CNY would continue for 15 days and end with the Lantern Festival.

The Lantern Festival can be traced back to more than 2,000 years ago. There are a few different stories of how it originated. Do you know any of them? If so, share with us!

In Chinese culture, we celebrate the Lantern Festival by watching lanterns(賞花燈/赏花灯; shang3 hua1 deng1), carrying paper lanterns at night (提燈籠/提灯笼; ti2 deng1 long2), guessing lantern riddles (猜燈謎/猜灯谜; cai1 deng1 mi2), and eating tangyuan (sweet stuffed dumplings) (吃湯圓/吃汤圆; chi1 tang1 yuan2). Has anyone tried these activities before? Which one is your favourite?
