Your forearms do more than you may realize. 💙

They help you grip, lift, carry, pull, and control your wrists throughout the day. They also help rotate your palms up and down, an important movement behind many everyday tasks.

Forearm Controlled Rotations use the resistance of the water to challenge these often-overlooked muscles with control.

One exercise can meet you at three different levels. 💙

With Hydro Squats, the Basic version focuses on control and confidence, the Intermediate version adds a small jump and soft landing, and the Advanced version combines the squat with aquatic dumbbells and a hammer curl for more full-body resistance.

There is no need to start at the hardest level. Start where you can move well, then build from there.

Can water exercise really make your muscles stronger? Yes, it can, when the exercise provides enough challenge and progresses over time. 💧💪

Water creates resistance whenever you push or pull through it. Your muscles respond to the effort required to complete the movement, whether that resistance comes from water, a traditional weight or another form of resistance.
In the pool, you can adjust the challenge by changing your speed, range of motion, hand position, surface area or equipment.

This does not mean every gentle water movement will produce the same results. Just like strength training on land, the exercise needs to challenge your muscles appropriately and become progressively more demanding.

A systematic review with meta-analysis included 62 studies involving healthy adults and adults with chronic health conditions. Among healthy adults, water-based training showed beneficial effects on strength, balance and cardiorespiratory fitness.

Your chest muscles, your pectorals, play an important role in pushing movements, upper-body strength, and controlled arm movement.

Here are 3 exercises you can try in the water:

💪 Chest Fly
💪 Chest Press & Pull
💪 Hydro Arm Press

The best part? The water provides resistance throughout your movements, allowing you to challenge your muscles without traditional gym weights.

Did you know that your hand position can change how much resistance you feel in the water? 💧

Try the same arm press at the same speed using these four hand positions:

✋ Open palm: More surface area creates more resistance.

✊ Closed fist: Less surface area creates less resistance.

🤚 Fingers together: Creates a firm, steady surface against the water.

🖐️ Fingers spread wide: Allows more water to move through the gaps.

You can use these small changes to increase or decrease the challenge, without changing the entire exercise.

Tone Your Core: Lower Abs in Water 💪💦

You don’t need to lie on the floor to challenge your core!

In the pool, your lower abdominals and deep core help steady your hips, support your posture, and control your movements against the water’s natural resistance.

Three exercises that put them to work:

💦 Floating Flutter Kicks
💦 Tuck Jumps
💦 Hydro Core Crunches

Move with control, keep your core engaged, and let the water provide the challenge.

Is your water workout starting to feel easier? That may be a sign that you are ready for a new challenge! 💦

Small changes can make a big difference:
💪 Cup your hands to increase resistance for your arms.
🦵 Lift your knees higher to challenge your legs and core.
🌊 Add arm movements while stepping to engage more muscles.
⚡ Move slightly faster while staying in control.
🧘 Release the pool wall when you feel steady to challenge your balance.

You do not need to change everything at once. Start with one adjustment and progress at a pace that feels right for you.

Floating Flutter Kicks can be adjusted to meet you where you are in the water. 💦

Start at the wall and a pool noodle with the Basic version and gradually progress removing the noodle completely in Advanced.

The goal is not to rush ahead, it is to choose the version that helps you feel controlled, supported, and ready to move.

Which level would you try first: Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced?
