a journey that will take us somewhere else, in an elsewhere that we can't wait to discover.

Three and a half years ago this land was almost only sand.

Very little organic matter.
Very little water held in the soil.
Very little life.

So we started from there.
From the basics.

Compost.
Mulch.
Biomass.
Water.
Seeds.
Attempts.
Mistakes.
Observation.

And year after year something started to change.

Not all at once.
Not quickly.
But slowly the soil began to hold moisture.
Insects, fungi, wild plants and pollinators arrived.
The plants started growing differently.
And where there was once almost only sand, today there is a living ecosystem.

We are still at the beginning.
Three and a half years is nothing for an ecosystem.

But watching life return to a piece of land is one of the most beautiful things we have ever had the privilege to witness.

There is something deeply beautiful about handmade processes.

Not because they are perfect. Not because they are fast. But because every single step passes through human hands.

These syrups begin in the garden, collecting herbs and flowers one by one, choosing the plants, cutting them gently, leaving them in water overnight so they can slowly release their scent, flavour and qualities.

Then comes the filtering. The stirring. The simmering. The bottling. The labels placed one at a time.

Nothing here is automated.

Every bottle takes time. Attention. Presence. Repetition.

And somehow, we love that.

Because in a world that pushes everything to become faster, we are still interested in slow gestures.

In making things carefully. In knowing the plants we work with. In touching every bottle before it leaves this place.

And yes, alongside the practical side, there is also intention.

Each plant carries its own qualities, its own character, its own quiet language.

So while these syrups are simply delicious drinks, they are also botanical preparations made with care, with attention, and with deep respect for the herbs growing around us.

Small handmade botanical preparations, coming from our garden, our hands, and a slower way of living.

There are places that look like paradise only in pictures.

And then there are places where people laugh, cook together, transplant under the sun, split wood, build things, make mistakes, learn, get tired, feel alive.

Elsewhere is not a holiday. It’s a shared life.

Here the land is truly regenerating, but alongside the soil, the people who pass through it are transformed too.

Some arrive to learn about agroforestry. Others to slow down. Others simply to understand what it feels like to live in a real community.

And often they leave carrying much more than what they thought they came looking for.

We do not make smudge sticks in series.

We make them slowly, one by one, by hand.

These days we have been harvesting esteva, the Mediterranean rock rose that grows wild here in the Algarve, together with wild lupin flowers.

We walk among the plants carefully choosing the right branches, the best leaves, the parts that will dry well and burn slowly.

Every plant is harvested by hand.
Every bundle is composed by hand.
Every string is tied by hand.

And maybe that is the most beautiful part.

We gather together around a table, between conversations, silence, laughter and working hands.
Slowly, the smudge sticks take shape.

No two are ever exactly the same.

They are small objects made of plants, time, care and community 🌿
