Yes, we are safe at Pinetrees!
As many of you have heard, there have been terrible storms in Portugal: heavy rain and flooding, hail and snow, and strong winds. There has been tremendous damage to properties, countryside, loss of trees and beaches, businesses ruined, livestock, ….
Many of you have contacted us to see how things are at Pinetrees. Luckily, we have had little damage: a few dead trees fell, a strip of roofing off the wooden house but no infiltration, and arenas and paddocks are full of mud. Very little damage compared to many riding facilities in Portugal.
For us It has meant financial difficulties as it has not been possible to do business, and, the expense of maintaining our horses continue.
Our feed merchant, Paulo Afonso, who is a great chap to work with, has set up a scheme with the feed suppliers of INTACOL to donate feed to some of the riding facilities badly affected by the storms, especially in Leiria. If you would like to offer some financial support with some horse feed to the most deserving cases, please send your donation to the following IBAN address.
IBAN: PT50 0045 7120 4011 8829 6630 7 in the name of José Manuel Filipe Afonso, which is the Casa Das Rações, in Messines, business account.

Can anyone help?
At Pinetrees Riding we have several horses that are looking for a retirement situation. We really have too many horses to maintain. They are reasonably all fit and well but a little long in the tooth, as we say. Do you know of anyone who would be interested?
Suan – a pure bred Luso gelding, 27, who loves people but not so social with other horses. Not suitable for riding as he is very dippy in his back, the result of incorrect training and gadgets in his early life.
Boneco – a gentle, kind horse. Although about 1m.50 he is very suitable for small, lightweight children to ride and handle. An easy horse for any other horse to get on with.
Ambar – she was a rescue horse and is now about 7 years old. Easy to handle, and very smooth to sit on. She would suit a lightweight competent adult who wants to hack out, but is not ambitious to compete.
