What a busy week it’s been at Floresta Bowls Club! ☀️🎳

We rounded off a fantastic week of bowling by welcoming the lovely Auriol Bowling Club from Worcester Park, Surrey.

Once again, we enjoyed a great morning of friendly but competitive bowling on the carpet. The final scores certainly didn’t reflect just how close and enjoyable many of the games were.

A big thank you once again to Chris, Greer and Jackie for all their hard work and contributions throughout the week. Also, a special thank you to all our Floresta members who turned out to support the club and make our visiting teams feel so welcome.

We really hope everyone from Auriol has enjoyed their time here on the beautiful Algarve. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we wish you all a safe and pleasant journey home. Hopefully, we’ll see you again in the future!

And there’s no rest for us just yet! We have two more touring sides visiting next week, so we’re looking forward to more great bowling, good company and, hopefully, plenty more fun in the Algarve sunshine! ☀️

Thank you, everyone, for another fantastic week at Floresta! 👏

Another Great Morning of Bowls at Floresta! ☀️

On to our second visiting tour of the month at Aldeia Azul, where we welcomed Crofton Bowling Club for another very enjoyable and competitive morning of bowling.

Crofton proved to be a very good side, with some excellent bowls played across all the rinks.

A special mention must go to the Crofton team on Rink 3, who recorded a well-deserved 19–15 victory against what we considered to be a strong Floresta team of Peter and Carol Meldrum, Brian and John F.

So, congratulations to Janet Smith, Kay Smith, Neil Papley, Dave A and substitute Sandra McGay on a fine performance!

Well done to all the other teams too, with some closely contested matches and plenty of good bowling throughout the morning.

As always, a big thank you to Jackie, who always does an superb job looking after everyone with the refreshments, Debbie for the outstanding carrot cake and to Chris and Greer for their excellent organisation and the lovely rolls. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

It was a pleasure welcoming Crofton Bowls Club to Floresta, and we hope you all enjoyed your morning with us as much as we enjoyed hosting you.

No rest for the wicked! We’re straight back into action tomorrow morning with another visiting team. Let’s hope the Algarve weather continues to be kind to us and the sun keeps shining! ☀️

So we’re underway with the first of our visiting tours this month! ☀️🌴

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Cricklade Bowls Club from Swindon to Floresta.

We enjoyed a great morning of bowls, with Cricklade playing extremely well, especially considering that for some of their players it was their first experience of playing on carpet. The final score certainly didn’t reflect how competitive and enjoyable the games were.

It was a real pleasure hosting everyone from Cricklade and we thoroughly enjoyed both the bowls and your excellent company.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay here in the Algarve and have a safe journey home. Hopefully we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Floresta again in the future.

Thank you for a lovely morning of bowls! ☀️🇵🇹

Summer League Finale

Well, that’s the end of the Summer League, and what a great effort from both of the Floresta teams!

A good morning of bowls at Alvor was followed by an excellent lunch provided by Alvor Bowls. Many thanks to them for their hospitality.

Results:

Pedras Crocs 6-4 Floresta Foxes
Valverde Vulcan 6-4 Floresta Falcons

So close, but not quite close enough. The Alvor Rhinos secured the trophy by beating Valverde Vikings 2-8.

There are no more league games now until October when the Winter League starts. I’m sure Floresta will once again be fielding two very strong teams and challenging at the top.

In the meantime, enjoy your summer breaks. Roll-ups will continue on the usual days, so hopefully we can all keep our practice up and be ready for another crack at the league when it returns.

Well done to everyone who competed in the Summer League and represented Floresta so well throughout the season.

Summer League Update

Another week at Pedras for the penultimate game of the Summer League.

Both Floresta teams performed well, with the Falcons earning an excellent 5–5 draw on points against Alvor’s top team. The Foxes put in a strong performance, beating Alvor Zebras 10–0 and moving to the top of the table.

Now it’s on to the final game of the Summer League, which will be played at Alvor. Going into the last round of fixtures, the Foxes sit top of the league, with the Falcons in second place and the Alvor Rhinos close behind in third. With so little separating the teams, everything is still to play for and an exciting finale awaits.

To cap it all off, Alvor are putting on what looks to be an excellent lunch. If any club members would like to come along, support the Floresta teams and join us for lunch, you would be most welcome. The players would certainly appreciate the support.

If you would like to dine with the teams, or if you are playing, please send a message to Alex on 966 991 153 confirming your preferred main course choice: beef, salmon or vegetarian fritter. The meal will be served after the bowling has finished.

We wish both teams the very best of luck in this title decider.

🦊 Come on the Foxes and Falcons! 🦅

Another great day for Floresta in the Summer League, with both teams travelling to Pedras and coming away with excellent results.

The Foxes 🦊 recorded a convincing 9–1 victory over the Valverde Vikings, with some exciting and closely contested ends throughout the match.

The Falcons also produced a superb performance against the Alvor Zebras, winning 8-2 and moving to the top of the Summer League table.

Next week sees both teams return to Pedras for the penultimate round of fixtures. The Foxes take on the Alvor Zebras, while the Falcons face a crucial clash against the second-placed Alvor Rhinos.

With the league entering its final stages, there’s still everything to play for. Good luck to both teams! 🍀🏆

Summer League Update

Last week’s Summer League matches were played in glorious sunshine, although the windy conditions provided an extra challenge for all teams.

The Floresta Foxes faced the league leaders, the Alvor Rhinos 🦏, and despite a strong performance came out on the wrong side of a 29–47 scoreline. Nevertheless, it was a very respectable result against the team currently sitting at the top of the table.

The Floresta Falcons took on a strong Valverde Vikings side and, although they were defeated 26–42, produced a competitive display that keeps them firmly in the hunt near the top of the league standings.

Today, both teams were in action at Pedras. We will post the results and updated league tables as soon as they are available.
