Summer League Update

Last week’s Summer League matches were played in glorious sunshine, although the windy conditions provided an extra challenge for all teams.

The Floresta Foxes faced the league leaders, the Alvor Rhinos 🦏, and despite a strong performance came out on the wrong side of a 29–47 scoreline. Nevertheless, it was a very respectable result against the team currently sitting at the top of the table.

The Floresta Falcons took on a strong Valverde Vikings side and, although they were defeated 26–42, produced a competitive display that keeps them firmly in the hunt near the top of the league standings.

Today, both teams were in action at Pedras. We will post the results and updated league tables as soon as they are available.

Ever fancied trying a relaxing game of lawn bowls?

At Floresta Bowls Club, based just outside Praia da Luz and Lagos, we have excellent facilities and a very welcoming club atmosphere. We play bowls both socially and competitively in the Bowls Algarve League.

We are currently welcoming new players, so if you’ve never played lawn bowls before and would like to give it a try, we hold friendly roll-ups on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We are always happy to help complete beginners with tuition, experienced bowlers are very welcome too.

Why not come along and give it a go? Enjoy a gentle game of bowls in the sunshine and make the most of the social side of the club.

We supply all the equipment needed — all you need are flat shoes with no heels.

A great third week of the Algarve Summer League season, with Floresta once again hosting all the teams on the carpet at Aldeia Azul.

Both the Foxes 🦊 and Falcons were in top form, securing excellent wins to continue a fantastic start to the season.

The Foxes kicked off the morning against the Valverde Vulcans and came away with a strong 64–22 victory.

The Falcons then followed up with an impressive performance against the Pedras Gators, winning convincingly 67-19

A cracking day was had by all in the glorious Algarve sunshine ☀️. This week we head to the grass at Valverde, and hopefully we can keep this great run going.

Summer League round 2 results, round 3 Thursday 21st Floresta are hosting coe along and watch 10.30am & 2pm

Thursday 7th started the Summer League with Floresta hosting. Thursday 14th were playing at Alvor Bowls Club @ 10.30am

Facing another strong test from the Shetland Isles, Lerwick Outdoor Bowling Club— the most northerly bowls club in the world — gave us a real run for our money. They claimed a convincing win on rink 4 against a strong Floresta side, while the other three rinks were closely fought battles over 16 ends.

With beers flowing throughout the morning (and a few wines sneaking in too), it wasn’t a bad way at all to spend a spring/summer day on the green/carpet.

Once again, a big thanks to Chris for keeping everyone well fed with the rolls, and to Greer for all the organisation. A huge thank you as well to all the members who came along to help out the club, along with our friends from Alvor Bowls Club who came along and helped out with some of our previous tour games.

A bit of a breather now before the summer league gets underway, with Floresta entering two teams — The Falcons and The Foxes. Best of luck to both sides… let’s hope there’s some more silverware heading back to the club 🏆

Today we had the pleasure of hosting Falcon & Witham Bowls Club for the opening game of their Algarve tour—and what a start it was. A strong side and great company, they made it a thoroughly competitive afternoon on the green. Out of the four games played, Falcon & Witham took two (on rinks 1 & 4), so well done to them for a solid performance.

Off the green, we were once again treated to a fantastic lunch courtesy of Greer and Chris, and a big thank you to Jackie for keeping the refreshments flowing throughout the day—very much appreciated by all. Falcon Bowling & Social Club

No time to put the bowls away just yet, as we go again tomorrow morning with another touring side making the long journey from the Isle of Skye… we might need a translator for that one 😅

Today we hosted Mytchett bowls Club from Camberley, Surrey, and under clear blue skies, enjoyed a great day’s bowling both in the morning and the afternoon. There were a few red faces and legs, but nothing a bit of aftersun this evening won’t sort out.

On the green, Mytchett played very well—even with the afternoon team arriving after sampling the hospitality of Lagos at lunchtime!

All in all, a fantastic day enjoyed by everyone. A big thank you to Mytchett for choosing to visit us on their tour—we’d love to see you all again. Mytchett Bowls Club
