Correspondingly, a profound evaluation is an indispensable element of a quality assured counselling process. Its assessment by the athlete helps compare outcomes with previously agreed objectives. Moreover, the professional interaction with an athlete provides a rich breeding ground for reflection on the part of the counsellor. What went well? What difficulties were experienced? What can be done differently next time? 💯

The tool Evaluation helps dual career counsellors to implement a self-assessment routine which assists to extract learnings considering social, cultural, and organisational contexts.

Some are just about to make their transition from talented to senior level sport, others have reached elite athletic level in their sport, while a third group may already be considering athletic retirement in the near future.

Alongside sport and education, changes occur on psychological, psycho-social or financial levels. For athlete students, keeping their personal balance is a tour de force which requires optimised self-management, proactive planning and perseverance. Higher education institutes can support their athlete students by fostering planning routines, implementing systematic processes and conducting a regular programme evaluation. 🤝

The tool HE : Perform, in combination with the tool HE : Prepare, helps higher education institutes guide athlete students through their academic career by providing them with self-applicable planning tools, and by monitoring both the individual athlete student’s and the institutional programme’s progress. 📊

Deciding what to do after secondary education can be very challenging. Being an athlete does not make this any easier. When considering an ongoing education following school, athletes do not only need to decide what subject, course type and education institution is right for them. They are also confronted with the question, how the desired study option can be realized next to their sporting career. A dual career solution must be individually tailored to the athlete’s prerequisites and needs. Making well-considered decisions for their very own dual career pathway post-school therefore becomes a key factor not only for their education and athletic success but also their personal well- being. 💯

The tool Edu-Check helps athletes in a 3-step-process to 1) gather dual career-relevant information, 2) weigh their educational options against each other and, 3) select the direction in which to continue their dual career pathway following their secondary school career, such as towards higher education, further education or apprenticeship.

In many sports, the educational can happen parallel to the move from talented to senior level sport. Consequently, the thorough initiation of and preparation for the entry to higher education contributes to dual career success. The higher education institute is advised to facilitate a smooth arrival for their athlete students.

The tool HE : Prepare helps higher education institutes gather initial data about the athlete’s dual career. Simultaneously, the athlete student self-collects systematic feedback on which things must (still) be organized before starting their studies. Finally, the tool assists to award participants in a HE support scheme with their official athlete student status.
