Para Badminton’s Profile Set to Soar Nearly three decades ago, badminton made a momentous leap when it was included in the Olympic programme at Barcelona 1992. Since then, its popularity has exploded, becoming one of the most-followed Olympic sports, and establishing its presence all over the world.

BWF announced the final list of qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games badminton competition.
A total of 46 male and 44 female players representing 28 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from the five Continental Confederations have been selected.
The draws for the 14 events for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Badminton Competition will be held on Thursday 26 August 2021 in Tokyo.

Para badminton Sport Classes:
Short Height 6 (SH6)
SH6 Class is for players with short stature due to a genetic condition often referred to as “dwarfism”. These athletes play standing on a full-width court.

Para badminton Sport Classes:
Standing Upper 5 (SU5)
SU5 Class is for players with movement affected at a low level in one arm, a high degree in the non-playing arm the absence of one limb, or the minor loss of one limb. The impairment could be on the playing or non playing hand.
Athletes adjust for uneven balance and play standing on a full-width court.

Para badminton Sport Classes:
Standing Lower 4 (SL4)
A second standing class where the player has a lesser impairment compared to Sport Class SL 3. The player could have impairment in one or both lower limbs and minimal impairment in walking/running balance.
These athletes play standing on a full-width court and have good court movement and a full range of shots.
