THE GOLDEN LIONS ARE COMING TO LISBON! 🇿🇦🦁

From South Africa, land of the mighty Springboks, the prestigious Golden Lions Youth Rugby (GLRU) is sending a representative team to compete in the U14 Boys section of the Lions Junior 7s 2027!

Based in Johannesburg, the Golden Lions are one of the most respected names in South African rugby, home of the iconic Ellis Park and a proud breeding ground for generations of Springbok talent. Their youth structures are renowned for producing skilful, fearless and passionate players, and we can’t wait to see this young pride in action on Portuguese soil.

Their arrival makes the 8th edition of the Junior 7s more international than ever, bringing together young players from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and beyond to compete, learn and make friendships that last a lifetime. That’s what youth rugby is all about. 🏉

The Junior 7s is back for its 8th edition, and we’re proud to keep girls’ rugby at the heart of the tournament. Youth sevens events with a dedicated girls’ section are still hard to find in Europe, and we believe every young player deserves the chance to compete internationally, test themselves against new opponents and live the experience of a rugby tour.

Last year, clubs, schools and academies from across Europe and beyond took the field in Lisbon. For 2027, we’re raising the bar again: more teams, more competition and the same sunshine, seaside atmosphere and rugby spirit that make this weekend special.

🏆 From Junior 7s to Pro Rugby stardom! 👀

Remember that kid who walked away with the Best Player award at our Junior 7s (www.junior7s.com) as an Under 14 Yeah... that was Manuel Vareiro. Fast forward a few years, and Manuel has just been crowned Young Player of the Year in the French PRO D2 Championship, in his FIRST season in France! 🇫🇷🔥

We knew then he had it. Turns out, so did France.
We could not be prouder of this young Portuguese talent. This is just the beginning, Manuel, go get 'em! 💪🏉
