The Atlantic Lizardfish is a solitary hunter. It's colour and body markings enables it to camouflage itself with the sandy bottom, where it will either remain still on the surface or partially bury its body beneath the sand with its head protruding out. It will wait patiently in ambush until it's prey approaches and then in a swift move it lurches forward and captures it's prey.

Amazing colours of the Arrow Crab and even more amazing to see it eat. Look closely and try and figure out what this one was gobbling up.

I admire the attitude that Triggerfish exhibit. They are extremely territorial and will almost alway investigate anything new in their waters.

When fish pose for the photo...
The spotted burrfish is among the residents at the bow section of the wreck São Macário in São Vicente, Cabo Verde. They typically shy away from divers, but this one seemed to be rather inquisitive.

The Praia de São Pedro in São Vicente, Cabo Verde is known as the beach were one can swim with green turtles. If one is lucky with rays as well.

The operation was started by Dive Tribe, one of the local dive centres, in 2018 with the aim of dissuading and reducing the hunting of sea turtles. They work with a local fisherman as a way of incorporating the local community into their conservation efforts. In 2019, they signed a protocol with the Ministry of education by way of which 50% of the earnings is being channelled to the local primary school.

I spent the begining of December on the beautiful island of São Vicente in Cabo Verde. Needless to say the trip was entirely dedicated to diving and exploring the local dive sites.
A big thank you to the entire team at who made the trip one that has left me with many amazing stories to share for the years ahead.
The islands of Cabo Verde are home to five of the six species of sea turtles found in the Atlantic Ocean. Green Turtles, locally known as "pardas" were the ones we spotted on our dives.
