HOW
TO ARRIVE/TO LEAVE

GRANDIAGONAL was designed so that any rider can reach the starting point and return from the finish point using public transports on an easy way.

Caminha and Vila Real de Stº António are served by railway, being possible to connect these two destinations by train to any point in the country.

CP, the company that operates the railway in Portugal, allows the transport of bicycles on most of its trains.

The cities of Porto, Lisbon and Faro are the locations of the international airports.
If possible, the best option is to land in Porto and return from Faro, taking advantage of the short train connections between Porto and Caminha and between Vila Real de Stº António and Faro.

In addition, with their registration, each rider can choose to subscribe to the service provided by the organisation of transporting a bicycle bag (or box) and a luggage bag from Caminha to the finish point in Vila Real de Stº António.

GRANDIAGONAL 2027

After an amazing first edition, GRANDIAGONAL is back in 2027 for its second year.
The story got off to the best possible start in 2026, and from now on, during the third week of June every year, GRANDIAGONAL celebrates bikepacking and Portugal, crossing the entire country from end to end - a country that welcomes in such a special way every rider who takes on this challenge.
The start will be in Caminha on June 13th (Sunday), with the finish line closing on June 19th (Saturday) in Vila Real de Santo António.
Riders have a time limit of 6 days and 12 hours to complete the 1,000 km of the entire route without any support.

But GRANDIAGONAL its much more than a bikepacking adventure and riders can enjoy a program that goes far beyond the days of the main challenge.

The Municipality of Manteigas is one of the main partners of GRANDIAGONAL by EVOC
Nestled at the foot of the breathtaking Zêzere Glacier Valley, Manteigas is one of the main gateways to the heart of the Serra da Estrela mountains.
The houses, mostly painted white, contrast with the trees surrounding this mountain village, where an excellent and diverse range of lodging options invites you to stay a while to discover and enjoy everything the Serra da Estrela has to offer those who love nature and adventure. Manteigas is the starting point for a network of mountain roads and hiking trails that wind deep into the heart of the Estrela, revealing some of the most breathtaking scenery of Portugal’s only high-mountain destination.
In the first edition of Grandiagonal by Evoc, Manteigas hosted the 2nd Checkpoint of the challenge, where Alexandre and Catarina were on hand 24 hours a day to welcome and encourage all the riders before they tackled the challenge of climbing the Torre.
Whether at the Free Bivy Space, provided by the municipality, or at the town’s many hotels, many riders chose Manteigas to rest and recharge their energy before conquering the highest point in mainland Portugal.
Grandiagonal by Evoc bids farewell to Manteigas with a big thank you.
