The metrology community is tasked with providing a coherent framework in which measurement results can be made interoperable through metrological traceability to an agreed set of standard units. Most technical data used in decision-making is the result of workflows that depend on measurement data, models, algorithms and software, and for such outputs to be trustworthy and used effectively, it is necessary that all elements in the workflow are transparent, principled, explainable and interpretable and can be quality assured. The overall aim of the conference is to provide a multi-disciplinary forum to address how the metrology community can support trustworthy workflows across all scientific and technical disciplines, through
Extending metrology traceability and uncertainty quantification concepts to encompass complete workflows, from data to decisions
Using a multidisciplinary approach to address measurement and analysis challenges relating to new measurement modalities and applications
Understanding better the measurement theory, modelling, statistical and computational requirements in metrology and develop new mathematical and computational tools for measurement and testing.

Portugal continues to strengthen its presence in the European NDT community at ECNDT 2026 - European Conference on Non-Destructive Testing 2026.

Professor Telmo Santos, researcher at the UNIDEMI - Research and Development Unit for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, full professor and head of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI), NOVA School of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCT) and member of the ECNDT 2026 Scientific Committee, contributed to the conference scientific programme in a session chaired by Professor Miguel A. Machado, who also serves on the Scientific Committee.

Together, Professors Telmo G. Santos and Miguel Machado, Researcher at proudly represent Portugal on the ECNDT 2026 Scientific Committee, building on the legacy of the successful ECNDT Congress held in Lisbon.

Portugal's leadership in the European community is further reinforced by the recent election of Bento Alves as President of the European Federation for Non-Destructive Testing ( ). This achievement also reflects the continued commitment of the Portuguese NDT community and the important role played by the RELACRE-Associação de Laboratórios Acreditados de Portugal in promoting excellence, competence, and international cooperation in testing, inspection, and certification.

Congratulations to everyone contributing to Portugal's growing visibility and leadership in the European NDT community.

A symbolic handover of leadership

A memorable moment at ECNDT 2026 - European Conference on Non-Destructive Testing as the newly elected ECNDT President, Bento Ottone Alves (2026–2030), stands alongside the outgoing President Fermin Gomez, marking the transition of leadership within the European Federation for Non-Destructive Testing.
Thank you to the outgoing President for his dedication and service, and best wishes to the incoming President for a successful mandate.

Day 2 at ECNDT 2026 - European Conference on Non-Destructive Testing

A remarkable day at ECNDT 2026, bringing together the international Non-Destructive Testing community.
Congratulations to Bento Alves on being elected President of the European Federation for Non-Destructive Testing (ECNDT) for the 2026–2030 term.
Wishing him every success in leading the Federation over the next four years.

Today’s opening ceremony brought together professionals and institutions from across Europe, marking the beginning of an important week dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in Non-Destructive Testing.

Sharing some moments from the ceremony, the Portuguese group attending the conference, and a special meeting between Bento Alves and Ezio Tuberosa.

We look forward to the start of the conference sessions tomorrow with the international NDT community.
