In 2021, AI and surfing were not part of the same conversation.
There was no roadmap, no comparable product, no proof it would work.
Just two founders sketching concepts and asking one question:
Is this something people would actually pay for?
This episode goes back to the moment Surf Eye moved from theory to real-world validation.
The stage where assumptions are tested and the idea either survives… or doesn’t.
Episode 3 is live.
SURF EYE
Automatically record every session. No need to book.
📍 Caparica, Carcavelos & Baleal, Peniche
Surf Eye didn’t start with code. It started with meeting the right partner to make it happen.
After validating the idea with surfers, Alessandro met Andrew in Portugal.
Andrew is an electrical engineer who had worked across IoT, FinTech, and computer vision. He knew how powerful the technology could be.
What if computer vision could track surfers?
They met for a beer, sketched out the basics, and started asking a different question: what would it actually take to build this properly?
now live!

You know that feeling when you’re sure you just caught the best wave of your life… and there’s nothing to show for it? 👀
That’s when the idea of Surf Eye started.
Alessandro Fracassi was surfing in Portugal, had one of those waves that he swears was the best one, then looked back and realized nobody was filming.
He tried the obvious fix.
Booked a photographer, paid 70 euros, and hoped the conditions line up.
❌ He got one wave on video.
Maybe the most expensive (and life-changing) wave of his life.
➡️ So the question became simple: why is surf footage still based on luck and planning, when cameras already exist?
he shares the moment it clicked and the first idea behind Surf Eye: make cameras smart enough to detect surfers and automatically generate clips of every wave.
Next stop: 🇰🇷
We’re coming for every wave you ride.
The technology tracks every ride from multiple angles and identifies each surfer across the Reef and Bay areas using 6K cinema-grade cameras with intelligent zooming. It automatically captures, edits, and delivers every session.
The most advanced AI-powered video capture and 3D coaching technology is coming soon to South Korea’s .
Building Surf Eye has never been a straight line 🌊
📽️ Every Wave Counts is our first series that tells the real story of how Surf Eye was built: from the first idea, to the first ocean cameras, to wave pool integrations across Europe, to .video Eye, and now to a landmark partnership with
We talk about the decisions, the adaptations, and the moments that made the product what it is today.
For our founders Alessandro and Andrew, and for the whole team, this has been an extraordinary journey 🔥
This series is our way of sharing it honestly.
Episode #1 goes live on May 25. Stay tuned! 👀
