As a new academic year starts, I’ve been thinking about how I want to redefine and realign my yoga programme with what I’ve been learning and practising over the last year and a half.
Over the past two years, I’ve felt a strong need to change some of my habits and beliefs. This opened the door to exploring different approaches to health, movement, nutrition and wellbeing.
As I move towards my 40s, I’ve realised that what worked for my body in the past doesn’t necessarily work anymore. So I started experimenting.
I changed the way I eat, prioritising protein + fibre + healthy fats at every meal and starting my day with a savoury breakfast.
I started strength training around 1.5 years ago, after realising how much muscle I had lost and how difficult it had become to regain it. Today, I’m finally seeing the results. I’ve also learned about ‘NEAT’, non-exercise activity thermogenesis, basically, moving more and sitting less throughout the day.
I brought more broths + fermented foods into my diet: bone broth, oxtail + marrow, homemade yogurt + fermented vegetables like chukrut.
I started paying more attention to circadian rhythms, spending more time outdoors, getting daylight and organising my days more naturally around the rhythm of the sun.
And I’ve gradually reduced my exposure to endocrine disruptors, replacing plastic containers + cutting boards with glass and stainless steel, simplifying cleaning products and making some of my own cosmetics.
None of this happened overnight, and I’m definitely not doing everything perfectly. But these small changes have made a real difference in how I feel and changed the way I think about health.
And all these new practices have made me rethink what I want to bring into our classes.
🙌🫂THE GOOD NEWS? A NEW TEACHER, with a background in strength training + nutrition, will be joining our programme!
I’m very excited about this new chapter and about bringing some of these ideas into our community.
[ Note: each of these topics deserves its own post. I’ll be sharing the next months about these: concepts, recipes + practical gadgets that can make all of this easier to incorporate into everyday life.]
