“You’re so lucky. I wish I could afford to travel like you do!” ✈️🌍

I hear this quite often. And I understand why people might think that travelling frequently means having lots of money.

But here’s something you might not realise…

I’m not wealthy. I simply choose to spend what money I do have differently.

I rarely eat out. I don’t drink or smoke. I don’t spend money going to the pub or buying takeaway coffees. I don’t buy lots of material things or expensive gifts.

Instead, I prioritise experiences.

🌍 I travel to countries where my money goes further.

✈️ I use points, miles and loyalty programmes to make flights more affordable.

🏡 I volunteer in exchange for accommodation, meals and experiences.

💫 I follow opportunities and deals rather than always choosing the destination first.

And perhaps most importantly, I’ve learned that some of the richest experiences in life don’t cost very much at all.

Of course, I recognise that not everyone has the same circumstances, responsibilities or opportunities. And travel isn’t accessible to everyone in the same way.

But I also believe we sometimes place limits on what’s possible before we’ve explored the alternatives.

It’s not always about having more money. Sometimes it’s about deciding what matters most to you.

For me, travel isn’t simply a holiday or an escape. It’s been a way of healing, growing, reconnecting with myself and discovering what’s possible beyond the life I once knew.

And that’s worth making sacrifices for. ❤️

So I’m curious…

If you could make more space in your life for something that truly matters to you, what would it be?

And if that something is travel, what’s the biggest thing holding you back?

I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts. 👇

We spend a lot of time thinking about whether we have enough money to travel.

But time is part of the budget too. 🌍

So tell me…

What trip, experience or adventure have you been saving for “someday”? 💜👇

Sometimes a journey begins long before you book the flight.

It begins with a catalyst.

A relationship ends.
Someone you love is no longer there.
Your career no longer fits.
Life changes in a way you never expected.

Or perhaps nothing dramatic has happened at all.

You just have that quiet feeling that something needs to change. That there must be more than this.

For me, travel became part of my own healing after a period of profound loss and upheaval. I didn’t initially set out looking for transformation — I just knew I needed to go somewhere.

But changing my outer environment created space for something to shift internally too.

And I think that’s why some trips feel so different from holidays.

Sometimes we’re not simply travelling to a place.

We’re travelling away from an old chapter.
Towards a new version of ourselves.
Or simply creating enough space to hear what has been trying to get our attention.

Your catalyst doesn’t have to be dramatic.

It might simply be a whisper:

Something needs to change.

The interesting question isn’t always:

Where do you want to go?

Sometimes it’s:

What’s calling you to go in the first place?

💛 What has been — or could be — your catalyst for travel?

Sometimes you visit a place to see how it looks.

Sometimes you visit to learn how it tastes. 🌶️🌿

One of my favourite parts of travelling is getting beyond simply sightseeing and actually doing something alongside the people who live there.

In Bali, that meant getting into the kitchen and learning how local ingredients and spices come together with the hotel chef. 🇮🇩

Because you can learn a lot about a place through its temples, landscapes and history…

But you can learn quite a lot through its kitchen too. ❤️

What’s the best cooking or food experience you’ve had while travelling?

🌿 A difficult psychedelic experience isn’t necessarily the same thing as a bad one.

New research looking at people attending ayahuasca retreats has found something interesting.

Participants with higher levels of resilience actually reported more intense challenging experiences. And among those participants, challenging experiences were more strongly associated with searching for meaning one month later.

This really caught my attention because one of the biggest misconceptions around psychedelic experiences is that a “good” journey should necessarily be beautiful, euphoric or comfortable.

Sometimes it isn’t.

An experience can bring up fear, grief, memories, resistance or emotions we weren’t expecting.

But I think there’s an equally important caution here:

We shouldn’t automatically label every difficult psychedelic experience as healing either.

What happens around the experience matters.

Preparation matters.

Feeling safe and appropriately supported matters.

And what happens afterwards — when you’re back in ordinary life trying to understand and integrate what you’ve experienced — can matter enormously.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so interested in psychedelic preparation and integration alongside transformational travel.

The ceremony or retreat might last hours or days.

Making sense of what happened can take considerably longer. 🌿

Have you ever had an experience that felt difficult at the time, but took on a different meaning afterwards?

We usually think of travel as a way to switch off.

But what if sometimes the point is to switch on? 💻🌍

A change of environment. No social commitments. Nothing much to do. No pile of jobs around the house competing for your attention.

Just uninterrupted space to finally write, create, plan or finish the thing you’ve been putting off.

Sometimes the trip you need isn’t a retreat or an adventure.

It’s somewhere quiet where nobody knows you and nothing needs you.

Have you ever travelled somewhere specifically to get something done — or would you?

What if the trip you need isn’t the one with the longest itinerary? 🌿

We often plan travel by asking:

Where should I go?

But sometimes there’s a more useful question:

What do I actually need right now?

And sometimes the answer is… rest.

Not squeezing five sights into a day.
Not getting up at 6am because you “should” make the most of being there.
Not coming home needing a holiday from your holiday. 😅

Rest can look different for different people.

🌊 A few days beside the sea with nowhere you need to be
🌿 A quiet retreat surrounded by nature
💆‍♀️ Spa treatments, massage and being looked after
🏡 A cosy cabin and permission to do very little
📖 Slow mornings, naps and an empty afternoon
🧘‍♀️ Yoga, meditation or gentle movement
✈️ Or simply travelling at a much slower pace

The destination matters.

But how you design the experience around what you need matters too.

That’s one of the things I explore through travel coaching — starting with the person and the intention, rather than immediately starting with the destination.

So if you could design a trip around what you genuinely need right now…

What kind of rest would you choose? 👇

Save this for the next time you’re tempted to fill every day of your trip. 💛
