Waiting is part of sailing.
When conditions delay racing, doing less can be the right performance decision.
Athletes need to manage energy, hydration and focus without knowing exactly when the next start will come. Coaches face the same challenge: stay alert to what is changing, without creating unnecessary physical or mental load.
Because when the conditions arrive, the transition from waiting to racing can happen quickly.

Five events. Three months. One high-performance venue.
From World Championships to European Championships, Grand Prix racing and the Youth Sailing World Championships, the final months of 2026 will bring some of the world’s best sailors to Vilamoura.
Each event represents a different stage of the performance pathway. Olympic campaigns. Junior development. Emerging talent. Future world champions.
While the competition calendar unfolds, Vilamoura’s High Performance Training Centre will remain fully operational, welcoming international teams preparing for the next phase of their campaigns. Training and competition happen side by side, creating an environment where athletes can benchmark themselves against the highest standards.
The season never really ends in Vilamoura. As the final championships of 2026 approach, preparations for 2027 are already in motion. The next season is already taking shape.
