Starting with approximately 3,700 pigeons, the 12th edition tested some of the finest bloodlines from breeders across Europe and beyond.

Extreme heat and possible thermal inversions turned this race into a true test of endurance, orientation and determination.

🔥 501 KM FINAL
A demanding journey across Portugal, with high temperatures, difficult atmospheric conditions and an exceptionally tough final 200 km.

These races demanded much more than speed. They tested strength, resilience, orientation and the will to return home!

🕊️ AGD Summer 2026 – Auction Schedule & Important Information

Dear Participants,

The Algarve Great Derby Summer 2026 auctions are about to begin!

Following another demanding and exciting racing season, it is now time to present the pigeons to fanciers and breeders around the world.

The auctions will be organised through GPLOFT, with new groups of pigeons becoming available every week.

📅 AUCTION SCHEDULE

🔹 20 October 2026

- 100 randomly selected pigeons from different positions in the Final Race classification.

🔹 27 October 2026

- 30 randomly selected pigeons.
- Top 30 pigeons from the Final Race.

🔹 3 November 2026

- 30 randomly selected pigeons.
- Top 30 Ace Pigeons.
- 5 candidates for the Pigeon Olympiad.

🔹 10 November 2026

- 30 randomly selected pigeons.
- Top 30 pigeons from the Semi-Final.

🔹 Following weeks

- Between 75 and 100 pigeons will be offered for auction every week.

📢 VERY IMPORTANT – PEDIGREES & AUCTION CONDITIONS

We kindly ask all participants to send the pedigrees of their pigeons as soon as possible.

⚠️ Please pay special attention to the following conditions:

1️⃣ Priority in the auctions

Pigeons with a pedigree submitted will receive priority when being selected and listed for auction.

2️⃣ Participant's share of auction proceeds

Only pigeons with a pedigree submitted will entitle their participants to receive their corresponding percentage of the auction proceeds.

3️⃣ Send your pedigrees as soon as possible

To avoid delays and ensure your pigeons can be included in the auctions under the best possible conditions, please do not wait until the last moment to send the pedigrees.

A complete pedigree is also an important selling point, helping potential buyers understand the pigeon's origins and breeding value.

🐦 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹! 🏆

Hello everyone! Ringo here! 🐦

What a race! What a day! What an incredible atmosphere! ❤️

Around 1,000 pigeon fanciers joined us at the AGD loft, cheering for every winged hero who made it home. A truly unforgettable celebration of our sport!

At 08:00, we were released in Valpaços and immediately headed home, with 501 km ahead of us.

As predicted, this was a very demanding Final. The first part was relatively favourable, but the conditions became increasingly difficult as we travelled south.

🌤️ 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 – 𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

IPMA weather stations recorded challenging conditions in the Alentejo:

📍 Mora: 🌡️ 32.4°C | 💨 E ⬅️ 5.4 km/h | 💧 31%

📍 Portel: 🌡️ 30.2°C | 💨 SE ↖️ 11.5 km/h | 💧 44%

📍 Castro Verde: 🌡️ 29.5°C | 💨 SE ↖️ 11.9 km/h | 💧 44%

📍 Alcoutim: 🌡️ 28.6°C | 💨 S ⬆️ 15.8 km/h | 💧 48%

With temperatures exceeding 30°C, low humidity and unfavourable winds, the final 200 km were a real test of endurance. Fortunately, the expected rain didn't seem to cause any trouble.

And then, at 15:16, our first hero appeared! 🏆

The winner arrived alone, almost 13 minutes ahead of the second pigeon! Most arrivals were one by one, showing just how demanding this Final had been.

🐦 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘆! 🏆

Hello everyone! Ringo here! 🐦

The big day has finally arrived! Today, at exactly 08:00, we were released in Valpaços for the 501 km AGD Summer 2026 Final! 🚀

Our truck arrived at the release point at 03:50, giving us a few hours of well-deserved rest. As the first daylight reached the truck, our trainers gave us fresh water, and we had a little more time to relax while everything was prepared for the release.

Then, at 08:00, the doors opened. Time to spread our wings and head for home! 🐦💨

🌤️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲?

🟢 First 200 km: A relatively easy start, with light tailwinds and temperatures between 12°C and 20°C.

🟠 Next 100 km: Moderate easterly winds could push us off course, making navigation a little trickier.

🔴 Final 200 km: This is where the real challenge begins! Temperatures could climb to 30°C, with moderate to strong headwinds and even the possibility of rain. 🌡️💨🌧️

After everything we've experienced this season, we know that today's Final will demand all our strength, experience and determination.

501 km, one destination: HOME! ❤️🏠

AGD SUMMER 26

Dear Participants,

Tomorrow the FINAL RACE of the AGD SUMMER 26 will take place at a distance of 501 Km.

The weather forecast says the pigeons will have some weak tailwind in the first 200 Km , then 100 Km of side wind and the tough part comes at the end, the last 200 Km will be flown with moderate headwind, 30 °C and possible spots of rain.

We believe that the pigeons recovered well form the semi-final and they are ready for the big Challenge!

🐦 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲!

Hello everyone! Ringo here! 🐦

Today was our last loft flight before the big Final. The last dance around home before it's time for the real thing! 🏆

Under a cloudy Algarve sky, we flew really well. A good, steady rhythm, staying active throughout the session and hardly stopping the beat of our wings. Exactly what the trainers wanted to see from us at this stage. 💪🐦

After the flight, it was time to refuel with a good meal. And then came the best part… bath time! 🛁💦

A chance to relax, clean our feathers and put the finishing touches on our Final-day outfit. After all, if we're going to fly the biggest race of the season, we might as well look good doing it! 😎

The work is done now. The kilometres, the training races, the official races, the difficult days and all the lessons along the way have brought us to this moment.

Tomorrow, after 10:00, we will be basketed for the Final. 🧺🏆

And everyone is warmly invited to join us and actively take part in the basketing. Come handle the pigeons yourselves, feel their condition in your own hands and be part of this special moment with us before the Final.
No better way to see how we're doing than to hold us yourselves! 🐦🙌

Then it's time to rest, focus… and 500 km between us and home. ❤️
