Goodbye La Palma! We felt a bit sad and nostalgic leaving this little paradise behind us. What an amazing island!
However, the journey continues with many more great destinations ahead. We set sail right before lunch and sailed into the night to El Hierro. It was quite a rough trip with fierce wind and swell from astern.

We set course to La Gomera at first to avoid an area of strong winds, and continued south to Puerto de la Estaca on El Hierro. We approached the harbour in complete darkness, had a few intense moments while crossing the compression zone, and found shelter in the marina around midnight.

Gorgeous La Palma! This stop was our most favourite by far.📸 Stunning nature, rugged mountains, dense forests & lava fields, this island has it all. People feel more relaxed here, tourism isn't as crowded, and life still seems authentic. We stayed for almost three weeks and strongly doubted if we should trade sailing for a little farm with avocados here.🥑

Crossing all of the Canaries east ➡️ west. We sailed from Lanzarote to La Palma in just over 36 hours, passing closely north of Tenerife. The trip started a bit bumpy, with a big Atlantic swell from starboard. As the sun set peacefully, the full moon took its place. During the night the wind decreased until it was calm flat at sunrise. The early light illuminated El Teide beautifully above the clouds.
At twilight we saw the first lights of our destination. As it got darker La Palma got bigger, and we made landfall around 2pm.

From Lanzarote, we had a fast sail all the way to La Palma! Having spent the night at anchor near Playa Papagayo, we left on engine in very light conditions. As we passed the Strait between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the wind picked up so we could set sail. Soon, we had to reef and switch to a smaller jib! As the sun set, the miles flew by.😍
