You're on the safety stop, watching the bubbles rise, and then it happens. A Napoleon wrasse the size of a small car glides past at eye level and stares you down like you're the one who doesn't belong here. Napoleon wrasses are everywhere in Palau, and they're one of the most reliable highlights of any dive. Curious, enormous, and completely unbothered by divers, they tend to just show up. At German Channel, at Blue Corner, at the cleaning stations along the walls. You don't chase them. They come to you. t's one of those encounters that never gets old, no matter how many dives you have in your logbook.www.fishnfins.com

The 14th Annual WREXPEDITION PALAU is happening June 4-11, 2026, and spots are going.
This is one week dedicated entirely to Palau's WWII wrecks. 15 dives across 14 of the most fascinating sites in the archipelago, with evening events at Barracuda Restaurant where you'll learn the history of the ships and the battles that put them there. The Pacific War left behind an extraordinary underwater time capsule, and WREXPEDITION is the best way to explore it properly.
If wreck diving is your thing, this is the event you've been waiting for. Fish 'n Fins has been running it since 2010, and it sells out every year.

Some places look better in photos than in real life. Palau is the opposite.
The water is cleaner than most divers expect. The reefs are in better shape than almost anywhere else on earth. Sites like Blue Corner and German Channel deliver the kind of diving that makes you go quiet underwater - surrounded by sharks, mantas, and more fish than you can track. Palau sits at the edge of the Coral Triangle, and every dive shows it. We've been taking divers into these waters since 1972. The question we get asked most often, after people have been here, is - when can I come back? Palau is one of the few places in the world where ocean conservation is not a marketing angle. It's the law. In 2015, Palau designated its waters as a marine sanctuary. Large protected zones, strict fishing rules, and controlled tourism numbers mean the reefs here aren't just surviving. They're thriving. Visibility regularly exceeds 30 meters. Coral cover is intact. The fish are still there in the kind of numbers that make you stop counting. As divers, we benefit directly from this. Every tank we fill, every boat we take out, every diver we send into the water happens in an ecosystem that someone fought hard to protect. That's worth respecting.
We'll be covering Palau's sustainability story in the next edition of FNF MAG. Follow along at www.fishnfins.com❣

Long before Palau had a parliament, it had the Bai.
These traditional men's meeting houses were the center of political and social life in every Palauan village. Built entirely from local materials, without nails, and decorated with painted wooden story boards depicting legends and history, they were where chiefs gathered, disputes were settled, and the community's direction was decided.
The craftsmanship is remarkable. The painted carvings on the beams, called "storyboards," are one of the most distinctive art forms in the Pacific. Many of the stories they tell are still passed down today.
A few original Bai have been preserved, and visiting one puts everything else about Palau in context. The islands above the water have as much to offer as the ones below it. www.fishnfins.com
