Blog : Balancing your life in 2016!
It’s no cliche that we have rushed lives in this modern day and age…
The variety of activities in our daily lives have increased twofold and most days we cannot keep up. We work in tall towers where healthy food shops are too far to drive to in your 1 hour lunch break, and unfortunately because you worked late yesterday or fell asleep on the sofa watching Game of Thrones there was no time to meal prep to pack something healthy and worth eating the next day.
Sounds Familiar?
Well for most of us living in the Middle East time is not always a luxury we can afford. And therefore what we do and when we do it becomes important – and prioritizing might go out the door when we are faced with friends calling every 5 minutes and dinner parties on your reminders popping up and concerts and and and…
So how can we stay healthy and stay fit and remain in balance?
The answer is a simple one, yet one not many want to hear (because in this day and age we want a quick fix for everything!): plan, schedule and prioritize.
Here is our little list, or guidelines, of how we cope with everything in one day:
Take time to plan your week – be it a day planner on your phone or a diary you take with you, you need to have an idea what you are facing in the coming week.
Schedule time for prepping your meals and snacks every day – this way you know what goes into your body and you are assured of healthy food.
Schedule a fixed time to hit the gym or a quick workout somewhere close to work. Pack a change of clothing and workout before you become a couch potato. And try to go to a class or two where you are able to meet new people outside of your work and friends circles.
Prepare cut up fruits and vegetables in advance that you can use to snack on or for detox water or smoothies. When they are ready, you feel less rushed early morning and you are more inclined to make the healthy choices.
Set reminders on your phone for snack time and lunch time. It helps knowing you have a snack coming up! Setting smaller daily goals will mentally put you at ease and increase productivity.
Schedule some me time too… maybe it is watching an episode of your favorite series or maybe it’s reading 10 pages of that new book you bought, but it’s important to stick to you first!
Change your snacks and meals as much as possible. No one likes to eat the same thing day in and day out. We like change and variety.
Just because we live in a faster working environment now than the era our parents worked in, does not mean your health and wellness should fly out the door. Wellness and fitness centers are sprouting on every corner; healthy eating options are now incorporated into most menus and with such a high demand for good food, we can’t complain! Take some time, search your Instagram and Facebook for healthy options close to your office (if prepping from home is a problem), and make sure you know what goes into your body!

WE TRIED …
THE REAL DEAL..
AND HERE IS WHAT WE THOUGHT!
A bootcamp class is rewarding and fun but can, at times, become boring and repetitive.
Many athletes we spoke to love bootcamp classes because it is easy to build a community with fellow fitness enthusiasts you can feel comfortable with to push your limits and reach new heights, as well as feel motivated in a safe environment.
The Fitness in Qatar Team recently visited Bootcamp Military Fitness in their new location! Many of you know them for their high intensity workouts in Sheraton Park and The Qanat Quartier Beach in The Pearl, but they now also have a beautiful indoor venue in West Bay where you can escape the summer heat.

Steak and Eggs with Fat Potatoes!!
:
1 ½ lbs grass fed sirloin steak tips
1 lb fingerling potatoes, diced
4 eggs, scrambled
FLAVOR GOD PINK SALT & PEPPER
2 tbsp sesame seed oil
2 tbsp butter
:
Heat cast iron skillet over medium heat and add 2 tbsp sesame seed oil. When oil is hot, add diced potatoes and cook for about 2-3 minutes before stirring. Sprinkle with some Pink Salt and Pepper, then stir and let cook another 2-3 minutes. Stir again, and cook until browned and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon to a paper towel lined plate.
Trim steak of fat, gristle and silver membrane, then cut into ½" cubes. Season steak with about 1 tsp Pink Salt and Pepper. In same skillet, add 1 tbsp butter and let melt and get foamy. Add half of steak into skillet and let sit undisturbed for about 30-45 seconds before turning over. Let cook another 30 seconds and remove to plate. Repeat with remaining steak.
In same skillet, drain excess fat and wipe out. Add ½ tsp butter and let heat for a bit, then add in whisked eggs. Cook over medium to medium low, stirring occasionally until eggs are set.
Plate equal amounts of steak, eggs, and potatoes and ENJOY!
