What are the 5 Pillars of Self-Leadership?

In our previous post we explored what self-leadership means.

Leaders spend a lot of time focusing on external factors. Processes, people, targets.

In our busy lives we’re constantly trying to shape and influence these external factors to bring us closer to our goals and objectives.

But how often do you spend time focusing on you?

So, here are the 5 pillars to help you improve self-leadership:

1. Self-Acceptance - It is about being completely honest with yourself and accepting it without self-criticism or self-sabotage.

2. Self-Discovery - At our core, we all have a set of beliefs and values that make us who we are. Understanding what’s important to you, what energises you, what you believe in, and where you want to be, you can make leadership decisions with confidence.

3. Self-Management - Those who can self-manage are more productive, more focused and more able to work independently. Self-managing means maintaining a good balance and prioritising the right things.

4. Self-Growth - It is about striving to continuously improve yourself. Recognising what you’re doing, what is and isn’t working, and how you can make positive changes. To harness the power of self-growth, you need a passion for learning and a sense of curiosity.

5. Self-Compassion - Being kind and nonjudgmental toward the self is good practice for treating others compassionately. Compassion in leadership creates stronger connections between people. It improves collaboration, raises levels of trust, and enhances loyalty.
