Connecting Freedivers in Doha
A lot of new people have joined this page in the last months, and I have had a few message inquiries about freediving activities in Doha. Let's get you freedivers connected together.
Instructors, Freediving schools - Could you write in the comments what classes you offer and if you organise any freediving fun trips?
Local freedivers, spearfishers - Where do you recommend people go into the water for freediving/spearfishing? If you are going out some time, would you be able to bring a few extra people?
New freedivers/spearfishers in Doha that are wanting to get into the water - Who of you is looking for a buddy/group to join?

When you surface following your dive, the breathing you do is the so called ‘recovery breathing’. It is important not to exhale any amount of air until your mouth has cleared the surface, as exhaling on the way up deprives your body of oxygen and can make you more negatively buoyant. ⠀
⠀
The purpose of recovery breathing is to re-oxygenate your body as quickly as possible while not expelling all the air from your lungs. This air, while low in oxygen, still has some O2. Be careful: Forceful and complete exhales can cause you to blackout.⠀
⠀
How To Do Recovery Breathing⠀
⠀
1. If possible, hold onto something for support (whether it’s a buoy, side of the pool, rope, etc.). If not, just make sure that your airways do not dip below the water.⠀
2. Quickly exhale a small amount of air⠀
3. With your mouth wide open, take a quick, deep breath in⠀
4. Close your mouth for a second⠀
5. Exhale a short, passive breath⠀
6. Repeat steps three to five for at least 30 seconds or longer until you are completely recovered.⠀
⠀
It is important not to talk at this point - just focus on your recovery instead! Your 🤿🔱🐟 buddy should watch you for at least 30 seconds after you surface. 📷 ⠀
⠀
It’s important that recovery breathing becomes an automatic response. You should do it after every dive, no matter how shallow or deep, short or long!⠀

Stay safe everyone. Here are the recommentations from a few freediving training agencies about freediving during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Note that the recommendations vary, although the take-home message is to be smart and stay safe.

Freedive Safely in Times of Covid-19
Covid-19 is not over. It may be over when there is a vaccine which is expected to be developed, produced, distributed and applied in no less than a year from now. Until then it is our duty as freedivers and especially as instructors to avoid contracting and spreading this virus. We would like to ask...
