📅 Today, on the anniversary of his passing, we pay tribute to one of the most influential figures in the history of karate:

Master Miyagi, founder of Gōjū-ryū Karatedō, was honored with the title of “Bushi”, recognizing his legacy not only as a warrior but also as a human role model in the development of karate.

Born in Higashimachi, Naha, he began his martial arts training at the age of 14 under the guidance of Master Kanryo Higaonna. He later traveled to Fujian, China, to deepen his knowledge. In 1939, he officially named his school Gōjū-ryū Karatedō, making it the first karate style to bear an official name in Japan.

From the Jundokan Dojo, founded in Okinawa by Sensei Eiichi Miyazato, 𝐰𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝𝐨 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐨 [𝐒𝐁𝐈𝐅].

His teachings continue to guide practitioners around the world, and emphasize:

1. The secret of Gōjū-ryū Karatedō lies in the katas (forms).

2. Gōjū-ryū Karatedō should express the harmony of heaven, earth, and nature within oneself.

3. Gōjū-ryū Karatedō is the pursuit of the path of virtue.
