The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), based in Riyadh, unites 57 National Olympic Committees across four continents under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Founded in 1985 and rebranded in 2023, ISSA aims to foster an inclusive sports movement rooted in Islamic values, promoting peace, unity, diversity, and integrity.
ISSA’s 10-year strategic roadmap focuses on five key areas: developing sports ecosystems, organizing multi-sports events, advancing sports academia and research, integrating Islamic values into global sports, and providing emergency support for member countries. These priorities are supported by four flagship programs: Forward Through Sports, Excel & Host, Insight to Impact, and Voice Up, which aim to elevate sport on national agendas, strengthen athlete pathways and event hosting, harness knowledge and innovation, and ensure cultural representation in global sports.
The Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG), established in 2005, serve as a cornerstone for ISSA’s mission, fostering unity and excellence among member countries. The Games have evolved significantly, with the upcoming 2025 edition in Riyadh introducing new standards and partnerships.
ISSA’s Sport Development Goals, presented at the 2024 ISSA Session in Tirana, Albania, outline priorities for promoting sport, strengthening infrastructure, leveraging knowledge, and integrating cultural needs. The ISSA Session serves as a platform for collaboration, progress assessment, and consensus-building.
ISSA has signed 19 partnerships with international sports organizations and actively engages in global forums like SportAccord to drive its mission forward. On behalf of the Fans of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), we are profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of the late Mehman Karimov, a truly legendary Sports Administrator and the Director of International Programs for the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Azerbaijan.

We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Azerbaijan Olympic Committee and the entire Karimov family during this difficult time.

Mehman Karimov will be remembered for his exceptional kindness, his unwavering diligent service, and his immense contributions to both national and international Sport Development. His commitment was perhaps best exemplified by his instrumental teamwork in the preparations and resounding success of the Baku 2017 - 4th Islamic Solidarity Games.

His legacy of dedication and professionalism will continue to inspire all who strive for excellence in the world of sport. He will be missed dearly by the Azerbaijan and International Sports fraternity.
