You may have passed someone experiencing modern slavery this week without knowing it.
At a car wash. In a nail bar. In a workplace. In someone’s home.
Modern slavery isn’t confined to history or distant places. It exists today, across the world, often hidden within everyday life. The AoEC highlights that modern slavery can be encountered in everyday settings and across industries.
An estimated 50 million people worldwide were living in modern slavery in 2021. That’s nearly one in every 150 people in the world.
This Anti-Slavery Day, 18 October, we want to do more than raise awareness.
At the AoEC, supporting the movement to end modern slavery is a long-term commitment. We know coaching cannot solve modern slavery. But we also know that the people working every day to fight exploitation, trafficking and modern slavery are doing demanding and important work.
So we use what we have.
One way we can help is by supporting the people who support others.
On 12 and 13 November 2026, the AoEC is offering its Coaching Skills Certificate free of charge to people working or volunteering with organisations fighting modern slavery. The virtual programme is designed to give participants core coaching skills they can use to support colleagues, strengthen teams and develop their own communication skills.
Because awareness is a beginning.
