Aurora Sky Station

Igår, torsdag 2 mars, gick en stor lavin på Nuolja utanför det markerade skidområdet i den så kallade Vindtunneln. Linbanan har varit stängd sedan i söndags på grund av storm- och orkanbyar. På torsdagen var vädret lite bättre men fortfarande för hård vind för att köra gäster.
Idag, fredag kommer vår skidpatrull arbeta med att iordningsställa och säkerställa hela skidområdet efter de senaste dagarnas storm. Planen är att öppna för gäster upp till Aurora Sky Station ikväll och för skidåkare i morgon lördag.

What a wonderful Northern Lights season we have! Here we can see the sky above the mountain Nuolja where the Aurora Sky Station is. If you look very closely you can see it as a small spot of light.

In about a month Aurora Sky Station will be open also in the daytime for off-piste skiing and for enjoying the view. Our lift manager was up there today in the daytime and wanted to share a preview of the view with us all. Enjoy!

Sometimes when the air is warmer on the mountain than down on the ground we get this interesting phenomenon called inversion. It's magical to take the cable car up through the clouds, seeing more and more stars, until you reach above and see the clear sky. The two spots of light in the photos are the lights from the STF Abisko Turiststation and the Abisko village.

We often see the northern lights towards the North but they can appear anywhere in the sky. No matter where they appear they are most welcome for us and our visitors!
