Yesterday, some of the Boston Whiplash crew had a blast bringing volt hockey to the One Rare Experience at Boston University!

One Rare supports young adults ages 18–35 living with rare diseases through education, mentoring, recreation, and peer connection. We were stoked to add some volt hockey to the day!

This collaboration was especially meaningful as One Rare was founded by Austin Leclaire, a former Boston Whiplash athlete who passed away a few years ago. Austin’s family continues to carry his work and vision forward through One Rare, and we’re proud to support the community he helped create.

Thank you to Coach Laura and Boston Whiplash athletes Desi, Stella, and Austin’s brother, Max, for leading the session, sharing the sport, and getting participants zooming around in some volt hockey chairs!

Rainy day = factory mode at USVHA headquarters 👷

We’ve been 3D printing new joystick options for our volt hockey chairs in preparation for our training clinic in just 2 weeks time! Who knew XBOX controllers could double as volt hockey joystick mods 😉

What better way to celebrate the anniversary of the ADA than with a volt hockey demo! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Yesterday, the USVHA and the Boston Whiplash headed to the University of New England in Portland, Maine, where we partnered with Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation and UNE’s PT department to introduce volt hockey to people with disabilities, PT and OT students and faculty, and members of the Maine Adaptive community.

A huge thank you to Shae Woznicki, who was the driving force behind making this event happen after more than a year of planning. And thank you to UNE and Maine Adaptive for welcoming us and helping make the day such a success!

Here’s hoping this is just the beginning and that we’ll be cheering on a Maine volt hockey team before long! 🌲🏒⚡️

We’re a few weeks late to the party with training clinic preparations in full force… but better late than never! Happy Disability Pride Month from all of us at the USVHA! 🥳⚡️

Celebrated each July, Disability Pride Month grew from the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signed on July 26, 1990. It’s a time to celebrate disability identity, culture, community, and progress, while recognizing there is still plenty of work to be done.

The Disability Pride flag represents the diversity of our community:

💛 Cognitive and intellectual disabilities and neurodivergence
🤍 Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
💙 Psychiatric disabilities
💚 Sensory disabilities
🩶 Remembrance for disabled people lost to ableism

Disability is at the heart of volt hockey and is what brought this community together. Through volt hockey, disabled athletes have a place to compete, connect, build confidence, and experience the joy of being part of a team.

This month and every month, we celebrate the athletes and community that make our sport what it is. Happy Disability Pride!

Join us for four days of speed, strategy, teamwork, on-court action, and community as athletes from across the U.S. come together to train, learn, and play volt hockey.

This year, our elite Norwegian coaches and athletes are returning to help players train with some of the best in the world. Whether you’re brand new to volt hockey or already playing with a team, the clinic is open to athletes of all experience levels.

⏰ 9:30 AM–5 PM

Open to U.S. residents ages 7+ with disabilities or chronic conditions that affect mobility, including invisible disabilities.

No prior experience is required, and equipment will be available to borrow and customize with options like additional strapping, cushioning, headrests, ventilator mounts, joystick adaptations, and more.

Registration is $100 per athlete, and scholarships are available to help with registration, travel, and lodging.

We’re also still looking for volunteers to help make the clinic run smoothly, so whether you’re ready to play or ready to help behind the scenes, today is the day to sign up!
