Sports galore yesterday at Rutgers University’s Adaptive Sports Day! 🏒♿

The day kicked off with panels featuring adaptive athletes sharing their experiences, including our very own Marley! In the afternoon, we headed to the gym for demonstrations of all kinds of adaptive sports, including power soccer, power hockey, volt hockey, and more!

Our pals from the Philadelphia PowerPlay even recruited Marley to join their power hockey demo with a few volt hockey chairs thrown into the mix! Marley scored her first power hockey goal, and there’s a chance we might have stolen one of the Flyers PowerPlay athletes after trying volt hockey! 😉

Thank you to Rutgers for hosting such a great event and giving us the opportunity to introduce more people to volt hockey. We loved reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting new folks, and getting to experience so many different adaptive sports!

The USVHA is heading to Rutgers University in New Jersey this Friday, October 9 for their Adaptive Sports Day!

The event will take place at the Cook/Douglass Recreation Center and bring together athletes, organizations, and members of the adaptive sports community for a full day of conversations, demonstrations, and opportunities to experience adaptive sports firsthand.

From 10:00 AM–1:00 PM, attendees can hear from athletes during a series of panel discussions about their experiences in adaptive sports. From 1:00–5:00 PM, the focus shifts to live sport demonstrations featuring a variety of adaptive sports, including power soccer, wheelchair basketball, beep baseball, and more.

We’ll also be joined by our friends from the Philadelphia Flyers PowerPlay, who will be demonstrating power hockey during the afternoon.

The USVHA will take the floor from 2:00–2:45 PM to introduce attendees to volt hockey, demonstrate how the sport is played, and give people a chance to see the specialized chairs and equipment up close.

🇩🇰 2026 Champions League in Aabenraa, Denmark! 🇩🇰

When Marley found out her team’s practice was canceled for the weekend just four days before the tournament, we figured… why not hop on a flight to Denmark and watch some of the best volt hockey in the world for an “educational work trip”? 😉

The Champions League brings together the top two teams from each Scandinavian country, and this year Canada joined the competition for the first time. They made a terrific debut and absolutely held their own against some of the most elite teams in the sport- so proud of our North American neighbors!

We had the best time reconnecting with our international volt hockey community, cheering on our honorary BVH Lions teammates who trained with us at our clinic this summer, and getting a behind the scenes look at the facility’s in house volt hockey chair storage and repair shop.

A massive congratulations to everyone involved in such a great weekend of competition, and to IFAH Stockholm for taking home the gold and keeping their undefeated streak going! 🏆

Getting to experience tournaments like this makes us even more excited about where volt hockey can go in the U.S. and shows us the level of play that’s possible to achieve!

Watch some of the best volt hockey players in the world battle it out at the Champions League this weekend in Denmark! 🇩🇰⚡️

The Champions League represents volt hockey at its most elite and competitive level, traditionally bringing together the top two teams from each of the Scandinavian countries. This year, Canada joins the competition for the first time! 🇩🇰🇳🇴🇸🇪🇨🇦

While no U.S. teams are competing this year, we’ll be cheering on our international friends from afar, and so should you! 🫵

Volt hockey is growing… and so must our board!

As the USVHA continues to expand its impact and aspirations, we’re once again looking to add a few new members to our volunteer Board of Directors. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of volt hockey and widen access to the sport for athletes with disabilities across the country.

We’re especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

⚡️ Fundraising, donor cultivation, sponsorships, or partnership development
⚡️ Marketing, communications, public relations, or brand strategy
⚡️ Adaptive sports, disability recreation, or national sports development
⚡️ Nonprofit governance, strategic planning, or organizational growth

Board members can serve from anywhere in the United States and should expect to contribute approximately 1.5–3 hours per month, including a monthly virtual meeting and occasional committee work.

Experience with volt hockey is not required. We especially welcome applicants who can bring an outside perspective and help us approach the sport’s growth on a national level. People with lived experience of disability and candidates from backgrounds currently underrepresented on our board are strongly encouraged to apply!

How has it already been nearly a month since our training clinic?! If you’re a nerd like us and love data and statistics, you’re in for a treat because our 2026 Training Clinic Impact Report is officially here! 🤓

Our second annual clinic was our biggest yet, welcoming 29 athletes from eight states for four days of training, competition, and community! Inside the report, you’ll find participant demographics and feedback, testimonials, financials, photos, and a closer look at the people who made it possible.

Most excitingly, connections made through the clinic are already helping move potential teams forward in New Mexico, Illinois, and New York. We’re incredibly proud of what this community accomplished in just four days and even more excited to see where that progress leads next!

Today is World Duchenne Awareness Day! ❤️

Many athletes throughout the volt hockey community live with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. For them, access to adaptive sports means more than having the opportunity to participate. It means being able to compete, grow as an athlete, build lasting friendships, and be part of a team.

We’re proud to amplify the perspective of USVHA board member and Boston Whiplash athlete Caeden Parisi, whose story is featured in ITF Therapeutics’ Real + Rare series. Caeden’s experience is a powerful reminder that access changes what is possible, and that people with Duchenne can and should have opportunities to be athletes.

Thank you to ITF Therapeutics for centering the voices and experiences of the Duchenne community today and throughout Duchenne Awareness Month!

They also got into the bigger picture: why power wheelchair team sports are still absent from the Paralympic Games, what it could take for volt hockey to get there, and some of the trade-offs that could come with that process.
