ONE WATER RACE – from Ironman legs to One Water Race
I got home from Ironman Kalmar on Sunday at 17:00. Stiff, exhausted, barely able to walk.
Three hours later Nina Rolfsdotter from One Water Race called:
“Can you be at Stockholm Central at 08:00 tomorrow to film and run with Team 3 through ~200 km of brutal terrain and follow their 50 km of swimming?”
I said YES instantly. Recovery plan gone.
Josefine Ahlin rushed to buy energy, William Ahlin drove me to the train at 05:00, and by lunchtime Monday I was on a boat to Arholma. Chaos, stress, minimal sleep.
The start
I was supposed to “just film”.
Two minutes before the start Marcus Brandt asked:
“How are your Ironman legs?”
I answered:
“I’m standing up taking a dump because I can’t bend my legs.”
Team 3 walked a few hundred meters to read the maps (I prayed for more), then started running. My legs screamed “Stop.” But I pushed on.
Night one
Filming, charging batteries, GPS trackers, powerbanks, eating whatever I found.
I fell asleep during a swim segment, woke up in panic, threw on wet cotton underwear and cycling socks, and made it out just in time.
I froze so hard my hands and teeth shook. Team 3 froze more.
The team
Warm meals, hot chocolate, electrolytes.
Checking in.
Redirecting negative thoughts. Focus on positive things.
“Good catch, now we’re on the right track.”
No blame. Only forward.
I admired them more every hour.
“I love you guys.” Was often used.
I felt the same.
Fatigue
Night two blurred into everything.
I fell asleep while running.
Chris suggested a 5‑minute nap. The team agreed.
They slept on a mossy rock. I filmed 20 seconds, then collapsed face‑down in the moss.
Four minutes later we moved again.
The finish
My friends i team 2 sadly dropped out. More common than not. Never failure.
Team 3 had tried several times before.
This time they reached the Landsort lighthouse.
Indescribable joy.
Their physical ability was insane, but their teamwork even stronger.
After 165 km of running for me, they knocked on the lighthouse door.
Shower. Legendary burger. Pure happiness.
At 05:30 thursday Josefine picked me up.
I fell asleep in the car before closing the door.
Game over. Thank you. ❤️
