Umeå Historiska Fäktskola

The past weekend we once again arranged our workshop-based event "Masters of the North". We squeezed in eleven workshops in one and a half day, held by instructors from many different clubs in Sweden and Finland, and spanning a variety of fencing-related subjects. We want to thank all instructors for sharing your ideas and insights, and all participants for your engagement. The event is built upon collaboration and exchange of ideas and experiences between clubs. We're very happy for all fencers from near and afar who wanted to join us to create such a great event!

Yesterday, we said goodbye to Luis, one of our core members who's been with the club since 2017.

But before letting him go, we put him through a sparring gauntlet.
And handed him his well-deserved Journeyman letter.

(His full sparring gauntlet will be posted as a seperate reel)

A team of 4 from Umeå Historiska Fäktskola took the ferry over to Bothnia Open in Finland.

In the competition we took the gold (Robin) and the silver (Mattias) and accompanying big and middle sized buckets after many exciting and fun matches.

This is the third time we visit the event and we already look forwards to next year. Thanks to JHFS - Jakobstads Historiska Fäktningssällskap for arranging a great and friendly event and thanks to all the participants for matches and sparring!

HEMA-People!

There is still space to register for Umeå Open 2024 taking place on the 30th of August in longsword, single-rapier, and a very special team-based competition for only 600 SEK (This includes ALL weapon classes and activities included within the competition)!!

We will provide longswords for the competition, with the rapier competition itself being BYOR (Bring your own rapier) with rental rapiers for 100 SEK if you don't have one yourself.

Sleeping quarters will also be available nearby, for an additional 100 SEK throughout the event between the days of Friday to Saturday, (bring a sleeping mask and a bag). And for the clubs and fencers coming, we are happy to announce that the competition itself will be livestreamed.

On 30th August we bid you welcome to Umeå Open 2024 which will host a longsword, a single rapier as well as a teams competition in the same style as previous years.

In addition to the competition we will also host an integrated judging training workshop with dedicated sections of the event tailored for the judges, including a judging-teams competition connected to the teams competition.

For 600 SEK you will be able to compete in all weapon classes and activities including the judging workshops and team competition.

Longswords will be provided for all competitions but rapiers are BYO. We do have some club rapiers which can be rented for the competition for an additional 100 SEK if you do not have a rapier to bring.

Cheap sleeping quarters in a local school classroom for Friday-Saturday night and Saturday-Sunday night will be available at an additional fee of 100 SEK. (Comfort might be low though, bring a sleeping mask).

Lunch will not be served but several restaurants and stores are within short distance.

As of June 4th, we are starting our summer practices.
Everyone is welcome.
If you are a beginner looking to test out the sport, our summer period is an excellent opportunity to try it out.

The training hour for this year will be
Tuesday 18:00 - 20:00 Longsword
Thursday 18:00 - 20:00 Longsword
Sundays 11:00 - 13:00 Rapier

Our regular practices will take place at Broparken.

When left without swords as an outlet, we quickly turn to strange, irrational, and outright dangerous behaviour.
