ORB is a HEMA club dedicated to recreating how medieval knights fence with swords, and we've the best instruction in 15th C. Italian longsword in Singapore.

In 2 moves, you will be a threat, in 6, a force of reckoning. Learn everything the old fencing masters teach, and you will stand strong against the whole world. Every cut, every thrust, will be fluid, elegant, and precise.

We value consent and safety, and welcome everyone. The sword knows no gender, sexuality, income class, or skin colour. If you want to fence, come.

We train on Sundays, 4.30 - 6.30 pm, at Jalan Pintau Playground.

A bear has a new pelt.

A little too Stormwind/Lordaeron, but it catches the eyes and I like it.

So during our I have decided to give Ursus Magister a long overdue makeover.

Followed 's guide and did away with the HEMA black grip.

The lower wrap is a thick leather tape, wrapped once.

The upper wrap is wrapped twice, so the width of the upper grip feels about the same as the lower, as the blue tape is thin. This is purely an aesthetic choice.

I got the materials right before our lockdown kicked in, so I wasn't able to find cord or hair ties.

The riser had to be made out of the middle of a modern sport bowstring.

Pro: Durable and already coated with wax, which was slightly adhesive. Middle was covered with a rubber tubing too.

Con: $10 string.

I glued the end of the tape that went around the riser and tied the remaining ends of the bow string above and below it, to help set its definition. Left it alone for 6 hours.

Pretty happy with the results.

How many people do you need to pommel to get a large enough sample size to determine that a pommel strike consistently takes out exactly 4 teeth each time?

Humour aside, pommel strikes are always simulated in sparring/competitions, never followed through. Placing the pommel on the training partner's mask, or a light tap, before calling "Halt!" is good practice etiquette.

Leave your friends as unblemished as they were before they stepped into the salle with you.
