A Vintage 90s Italian steel Colnago frameset is always a collectors dream

Some may choose to build it up with period correct components to commemorate a unique piece of history

On the other hand vintage steel frames can be absolutely transformed into a performance monster with a modern groupset and wheelset. The accuracy and reliability of modern groupsets, the stiffness of modern wheelsets and low rolling resistance of modern tires complements the revered ride smoothening characteristics of the Columbus steel tubings used in vintage frames.

This particular build adopts the latter approach and attempts to create a contemporary and functional build. The vintage Colnago frameset is equipped with a shimano R7000 groupset and a Fulcrum Quattro Wheelset with Vittoria Corsa tires. The build also includes "traditional" components such as a threaded campagnolo headset and a cinelli quill stem.

1) Conversion to a 1 by 11 drivetrain from a 3 by 8. Shedding the front derailleur and extra chain rings as well as the shifter housing drops a huge amount of weight

2) Replacement of 3 piece crank to 2 piece hollowtech ii styled Rapido crank.

3) Replacing the front suspension fork with a rigid lightweight Aluminum Mosso M5 fork

4) A new lightweight RT S60 wheelset with sealed bearings
