Welcome to Straits Divers (Laut Timur)! Singapore's newest diving club. Our focus is Education, Exploration and Adventure.
Our mission is to bring quality education, inspiration and adventure to divers from beginner to expert.
Operating as usual
As another weekend of diving comes to a close, the joys are diving are not just what you get to experice underwater, but also the beauty that you are blessed to witness above.
A thorn next to two roses. Did you know that we have another instructor that you almost never see? She doesn't hid from the camera because she has a criminal past, no no; she's usually the one behind the camera. On the left is Carine, our strait-talking instructor. She doesn't mince her words and always makes sure students get the feedback they need. In the middle is our lovely student Denyse who is joining us on her first ever open water dive! One right is Alvin, our former SSI Diver who has converted over to BSAC.
Need to package your underwater goods? Then use a box fish!
Our Assistant Dive Manager for the day gears up for her first ! Not only do you get to see a totally different kind of wildlife at night, but nights dives are also part of Sports Diver training. One of the aspects of being a Sports Diver (the equivalent of a Rescue Diver + other skills) is about exposing yourself to diving in different kinds of environments, including ones where visibility is highly limited.
Steaming out for another day of diving! Looking slightly more aware then we did yesterday...
Our Assistant Dive Manager for the day sticking close to our instructor and Chairman. Being a Dive Manager for the day is a crucial part of our training for our aspiring Sports Divers. They get to learn what's it's like to run a day of diving from the risks they need to take into account to ensuring everyone's safety. They can even select the dive sites!
Some people aren't early morning people, but when you get to see this before your first dive of the day, it's sometimes worth it.
One of our members (fittingly her name is Sunny) caught this beautiful before today's first dive in
A short safety stop after taking our students to their first ever wreck dive. Pretty cool that you get to do on your first weekend of open water diving! We don't mess around here at
rescue is a key component of even our most basic training. That's why we can put our students into the open water with confidence, knowing they're prepared and most importantly, safe! On top of that we also offer technical instruction and can teach for, single, twin-set or .

Chilling in the blue and some our members being happy they survived another day in the deep, mysterious and treacherous depths...... Of our 3.5m pool (!)
Our club offers try-dives to anyone yearning to know what it feels like to be underwater. If you're keen to learn, and yearn to explore the ocean, drop us a message here and give it a try!
were finally out again, this time in to give some of our students their first experience in the open water.
And what a first experience it was! Low visibility, strong current and much more. We're amazed they wanted to come back!
We expected nothing bless from the waters of of course. Every dive they do after this would be a breeze!
Before we allow anyone into the open water, you have to pass the ODE exam!
Our tireless instructors
Beautiful sunset as we leave
Even if you don't have time to learn to scuba dive, we can also teach snorkeling and even just let you use our pool! Come watch use underwater!
Working together and helping each other is a key tenet of BSAC diving.
Come join us!
Rain or shine, we're getting in the water!
Secret session happening at our usual pool space tomorrow at 0830hrs. But don't tell anyone...and definitely don't announce it on social media...
An unexpected swimming test and the instructors favourite(!) of teaching mask clearing today were some of the skills we covered at the club. Seems like there were smiles all round!
BSAC SEA - Go Dive Finally launched! Our first pool session seemed to be enjoyed by all, with our first-timers getting to learn the basics. Better still, the more experienced divers go a chance to get their feet wet and enjoy some time in the water.
A quick trip out to Pulau Hantu over the weekend.
Diving in Singapore reminded me of a little of diving in the UK: Not much to see and terrible visibility!
Vox populi. We will change our names to Guardians of the Sea!
The early part of our pre Christmas get together. Super happy that our membership count is constantly growing!
I'm genuinely grateful for everyone that has shown willingness to be with us and dive with us.
Quick dive rescue briefing.
This location has probably the worst visibility in Asia and is definitely not for new divers!
However, our need to get wet is greater than our desire to be able to see where we're going!
This is what happens when you keep your dive kit in storage for too long.
If you're in a position where you've not dived for a while, get your dive kit out every 4 months or so, and give it a good soak in the shower or bath. Your BCD's seals will be moisturised, and all rubber and and soft plastic will be less likely to crack.
Shops are seeing a lot of things like this as we've come out of the pandemic and people are bringing their dive gear out of long term storage.
A few random shots from our time in Tioman last weekend.
Along with our sister BSAC club in Kuantan.
Exiting rough waters can be a challenge. This was us exiting the waters at Tioman over the weekend. Thankfully we have a few techniques to make the exit less dangerous.

One of the most remote villages you can visit or stay at on Tioman Island, is none other than Mukut Tioman Island. The sleepy kampung hardly has any tourists about its untouched slivers of beach
