[Alumni story] Jackson Kwa Jian Hui (BSc (ISM) 2018) founded TechSociety Group, a technology academy that aims to develop future-ready skills and provide digital consulting with creative solutions. Jackson has successfully implemented a regional program in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia that develops tech literacy, design thinking, digital marketing, and coding. This program was supported by former U.S. President, Barack Obama’s Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).
In 2018, Jackson was selected by prominent China entrepreneurs such as Alibaba co-founders Mr James Sheng and Mr Eddie Wu, to win the Singapore Valley Awards. This provided him with the opportunity to visit and deepen his knowledge of the Chinese market and entrepreneurship at Alibaba HQ in Hangzhou. Inspired by his experience with Alibaba, he has set up a cross-border platform to help companies facilitate trade with China.
“SMU has given me many opportunities to be globally ready, starting early from my student life. The exposure to various study missions and exchange programmes allow me to work with a diverse group of stakeholders overseas. For example, during my summer exchange to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2017, I initiated a technology literacy program from the ground up.”
Jackson believes strongly that “stepping out of the comfort zone is the first step, eliminating that zone is the rest.”
