Imagio Sports Table Football Academy trainers Michael Choong MC63 and Nic Tan were in competitive action over the weekend at the annual TFAS Cup organised by the Subbuteo Table Football Association of Singapore TFAS, a FISTF Satellite event.

Michael Choong MC63 had a good weekend winning the Veteran category, and coming in second in the Open category. In the Open category, he breezed through the group stage and quarter-final before enduring some tough extra time matches in the next two stages.

Nic Tan made the semi-finals of the Open category, claiming two group game draws where all his fellow group mates were former Asian Cup champions. He then won his quarter-final match with a late shot made just before the end of extra time against Singapore's top-seeded player, Bernard Lim, before falling to a late goal in the semi-final.

Congratulations, trainers!

The Imagio Sports Table Football Academ extends its condolences to the family of the late Chandru Chugani who passed away on Wednesday. Chandru was regarded as one of the "godfathers" if not the godfather of sports table football in Singapore. He was a pioneer of the game in Singapore from the 70s and 80s, and one way he will always be remembered by the community is as the senior champion of the 1982 Subbuteo National Championships in Singapore (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvJkJsl4DU). His victory earned him a trip to the Subbuteo World Cup in Barcelona, Spain as Singapore's senior representative. His participation was an inspiration to all Singapore flickers both directly after his participation and even today to dream big and play at a higher stage.

More important than this, Chandru was a friend to all in the Singapore sports table football community. He imparted his sports table football knowledge to all players (both new and experienced) willingly and was a fierce competitor when it came out to competitive play. Many of us also remember his wonderful supply of vintage figures and teams that he always brought with him to make access to equipment so much easier in Singapore. While his participation was not as frequent in recent years, his love of sports table football never waned, and he regretted every time he was unable to join active play in Singapore.

Rest in peace, Chandru.

From,
Michael and Nic

Occupational hazard version 2!

After meeting at the quarter finals of last year's FISTF International Open Merlion Cup 2024, our Imagio Sports Table Football Academy trainers again met at the same stage in this year's tournament held today at the The KB Doves - Kebun Baru Sports Table Football Club.

This time, the affair was much tighter with newly-crowned Asian Cup of Table Football champion, Michael Choong MC63, having to endure a close 1-1 draw before prevailing in shots over fellow trainer, Nic Tan. However, Michael's adventure ended in the next round with a close defeat in extra time to three-time Asian champion, Rudy Hesty.

This wraps up the 2025 series of FISTF tournaments organised by Subbuteo Table Football Association of Singapore TFAS. Academy trainers Michael and Nic both claimed good performances this year with at least quarter finals appearances in all tournaments they played in this year.

There were additional notable performances including Michael's victory in the Open category at the Asian Cup of Table Football along with his runners-up performance in the Singapore Sports Table Football Premier League, and Nic's quarter finals appearance at the Satellite of Le Cannet in France.

What was supposed to be a relatively quiet training weekend for Imagio Sports Table Football Academy trainers, Michael Choong MC63 and Nic Tan turned out to be quite busy.

First, a guest appearance from Team Singapore player Mohamed Rizal Taib who joined in the training matches.

Next, we had a walk-in from a group of three Italians who participated in some introductory matches, and we hope to see again at the academy.

Lastly, just as we were finishing training for the day, an order for a Total Soccer boxed set which we delivered on the same day.

We wish all our flickers a Happy Chinese New Year as well, and hope to see you in action here soon!
