Reformer Pilates during pregnancy offers a range of benefits such as strengthening your abdominal muscles, helps you to perform everyday movements without strain, strengthens your pelvic floor muscles, helps control and regulate breathing and assists in reducing back pain. It gives you a great workout without much strain.
Puppy Pose (Anahatasana) is a wonderful pose for anyone that works at a desk majority of the day or even for someone who is looking to undue bad posture. I personally love this pose, as it helps me get rid of tension in the shoulders and neck. Outside of yoga practice, we rarely take our arms overhead, meaning these muscles can become tight enough to restrict our range of motion. This pose helps to loosen those tight muscles.
How does the blocks help?
Adding blocks under your elbows makes the stretch more intense and it helps to create space for your chest to melt below the height of your arms. It’s also a helpful warm-up for poses with overhead arms, including Handstand (Adho Mukha Vrksasana) and Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana).
You’ll need two blocks, and again soft foam blocks will feel more comfortable than hard wooden ones.
Lean into the stretch for at least five slow breaths before pressing down into your elbows to rise back up to all fours.
Aqua yoga is super low impact, making it an ideal way for people with joint pain to improve their strength, flexibility, and range of motion. The water offloads weight from sore joints. Yoga poses may be modified for aqua yoga, depending on the pose and the depth of the water.

Prenatal yoga can be a great way to not only work the body in an essential way for moms-to-be, but also provides a good preparation for the breath and mind for delivery and beyond.
Yoga helps you breathe and relax, which in turn can help you adjust to the physical demands of pregnancy, labor, birth, and motherhood. It calms both mind and body, providing the physical and emotional stress relief your body needs throughout pregnancy. Breathing techniques will help you to handle contractions in a more positive way.
I offer Prenatal Yoga classes to all Mothers-to-be after the 12th week of pregnancy and Postnatal Yoga with Pilates six weeks after a natural delivery, or 12 weeks after a caesarean section.
Please do check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.
