One of our senior members, Jerry Yap, wrote about his afterthoughts on Tachi Uchi no Kurai (太刀打之位) after this year's Singapore Iaido Seminar. A short preview is shown below, please appreciate his full article in the link below.

The kanji 間 (ma) is 日, the sun, seen through 門, a gate. It names neither the gate nor the light. It names the gap between them — the interval, made visible by what frames it.

Japanese uses this one character for the space between two people, 間合 (maai), and for the timing between two actions. In solo practice these feel like separate concerns. In paired practice they turn out to be the same thing — and there is a third quality, speed, that quietly decides which one you get.

Genyōkan’s MJER Renmei Singapore Iaido Seminar 2026

Genyōkan successfully concluded its MJER Renmei Singapore Iaido Seminar, held from 21st to 23rd August 2026.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Matsumoto sensei and Wakabayashi sensei from Renmei, as well as our guest instructor from Genwakan, Mikhail sensei, for their invaluable teaching and guidance.

We would also like to thank all the members who attended the seminar and generously contributed their time and assistance towards making it a success.

Day 3 at Solstice Business Centre on 23 Aug 2026.

Day 3 is Tachi Uchi no Kurai (太刀打之位) day, with members pairing up and splitting into three groups. After receiving instruction and guidance from the sensei assigned to each group, members are asked to demonstrate the entire Tachi Uchi no Kurai set.
